My brother keeps telling me he reads bad reviews about the car and tells me i shouldnt get it? what would you guys do? or have to say??!

I really like the car but shit im so confused .. its a "05" Black exterior/Interior with 44k miles

Touareg is a great car and incredibly capable. It is generally a very well sorted motor and doesn't have many mechanical issues. Which model do you intend to buy? with prices the way they are now, you will get a great deal, so great time to buy. There is a general view that 3.0 diesel is best balance between power and economy, but depends on your driving style and environment. 2.5 is a little rough and doesn't use all the same components as rest of range - AFAIK. I have the 3.2 petrol and love it.

MusDaLooSe, what are the main reasons for wanting an SUV? Do you really need the offroad capability or are you looking for an on-road SUV with the raised ride height and seating position? Which is a cool reason in itself...

Having only ever driven the pre-facelift Touareg V8 on steel springs (as opposed to air suspension) many years ago, I can't comment on the ride quality of the facelifted models.

Sadly, interior quality of the earlier models wasn't great - lots of "snap-crackle-pop" from the facia and jiggly cabin fittings. I'm certain that the build quality in 2008 is greatly improved.

Other than that, reliability seems to be sorted and the car is practical and spacious - and stylish too!

Not reaally too much off roading but for all the stupid streetswith the gaps holes and speesd bumps in my city ...

And xila I'm lookong a v8 model 2005

The Touarge had A LOT of problems in its first couple of years of production, so many that it got to the point that VW was giving free tickets to Germany to Touareg owners to try and win them over because of their bad experiences. If I would get one of those it would be a later year...

I sat in an 08 the other day at the dealer, and was quite underwhelmed byt he interior.. The silver strip was pure painted hollow plastic, not even the kind of silvery metal found in other models.

I like the front on this car but i dont like the back!.. i would want it faster tho.. an i think its a bit small for me im a 6'2" guy 300 pounds lol

Would a Tiguan not be better for everyday use?

And it would be cheap to run;):usa7uh:

so your telling me the models of 08 and up are the ones to go for?

its a bit pricy tho!!

Yea I would go with an 08 or 09... You should be able to get one pretty well discounted considering how car sales are going...

MusDaLooSe...

I've refrained from bringing in comparable vehicles into the discussion but I just can't help myself; buy a 2006/2007 Mercedes Benz ML320 CDI. Can't go wrong.

Later Touaregs are the ones to go for.

As mentioned the new TDI would be the pick but if you can afford it.

Make sure you get full service history and records before buying a Touareg (and any vehicle really) :D

Good Luck

I think most Touaregs are extremely reliable now. A 2005 model will have been sorted out by the previous owner if it had any problems - which I think is generally unlikely. The Touareg has a very reliable reputation in the trade.

The V8 would be wonderful - just like any other V8 it will be thirtsy, but will really fit your bill of having good power. The ride height, space and comfort will suit someone of your frame - I know because I'm quite similiar - and the car handles wonderfully. If possible get a car with air suspension - the ride is very much better. Dynamically the car is super - you will be amazed how well it handles for such a big car.

Of course I'm a Touareg biggot, I like the looks, the ride, the space, comfort, presence etc and it has been great for me for 4 years. I'm about to change and considered another one - especially since they are such great value, but I'm going to go for a complete change with either a Phaeton or an A8. Just don't go for an ML - I understood they had a poor reputation for the previous model and the current model.........not my cup of tea. If you want good info on the Touareg, go to mytreg.com

Happy motoring with whatever you choose.

Xila:t-cheers:
