The last time we sat in one place for almost 29 hours, it involved a Netflix marathon and our sofa. But Ed Bolian did something a little more impressive — and impressively dangerous — in 28 hours and 50 minutes: he drove across the entire United States. Bolian and two friends, including one co-driver, packed into a highly equipped 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG and rocketed themselves from midtown Manhattan to Redondo Beach, Calif., at an average speed of 98 mph. They stopped for gas three times; they never took a bathroom break.

Bolian and his crew obliterated Alex Roy's previous cross-country driving record of 31 hours and 17 minutes, aided by their car's three fuel tanks that could hold a total of 67 gallons of gas (and apparently made the interior smell like an Exxon had exploded.) They also had every conceivable gadget, including police scanners, CB radios, two GPS units, two iPhones running traffic (and speed trap-related) apps and two laser jammers. They also had nutrition bars, enough caffeine to kill a brontosaurus and bedpans, obviously. Congrats, guys. Don't ever do that again. [Source]

I drove the length of the UK in a BMW 730d in February of this year in 11 hours and 3 minutes. I can't find anybody who has done it quicker. The previous record was 11 hours and 14 minutes on a motorbike in 1984.

I made one stop for fuel and a toilet break of 12 mins.

Total distance 1,346km (Average speed 121.8km/h)

Watch, VW will hire a couple of pros to beat this record with one of their diesels since that will likely need to make less fuel stops.

I guess there aren't many people willing to provide the evidence of themselves breaching speed limits across the entire length of the country these days. The evidence would be used to hand you a fairly lengthy driving ban, especially if the record was well publicised.

Very true. Not sure whether it would stand up in court unless someone caught you in action.

As it happened a police car overtook me on the M6 near the Lake District whilst I was pushing 100mph and he didn't do anything.

I reckon I could get it down to less than ten and a half hours with better weather. For the last fifty miles of my journey the snow was pretty heavy.

There have been a number of successful YouTube driving prosecutions in the UK. From what I understand those convicted via YouTube evidence all admitted guilt. If you deny guilt and have a good lawyer a conviction is not a certainty... but personally, I wouldn't want the hassle.

Police cars on the motorway usually do nothing unless you are driving dangerously.

Oh yeah, providing video footage is madness. I meant just talking about it on a forum or saying "I did xyz".

I read about this guy earlier this year. Im astonished by the investment he has made in adding fuel tanks and adding all kind of gizmos necessary to dodge getting busted by the cops. All he was missing was some spikes and missiles. Luckily he has not been criminalise like Afroduck who clocked the record time around Manhattan, posted a video of it and was hunted down by the police commissioner of NY.

I'm surprised nobody tried to beat Alex Roy sooner, it had already been so long. It is insane when you think how big of a risk these people are taking. They could have become felons getting caught at 150 mph. A real achievement! It is humanly possible to do it faster than this. Morons like this guy will continue trying though...especially now after he brought this whole thing up again....people were starting to forget...

Nice work the best i've done was from Belgrade ( Serbia ) to Zadar ( Croatia ) which is roughly a 700 km trip and it took me 5 hours and 5 minutes in a 2000 BMW 525i with an average speed of 161.9km/h but at one stage reaching at stupid speed of 220km/h and also having 2 breaks one for petrol and one for a stretch of legs..The car was my brothers..:)

E60 M5, limiter removed, stupid kid behind the wheel...
I won't say what my average speed was but I'm sure only bikers did better than me.
