Found this the other day, and I thought it was really nice. You can take a virtual tour of the Earth, anywhere you want. You can zoom in, tilt, and rotate. It's not really 3D, but it's not bad. I think this is the free version, which only shows major cities that you can zoom in really close.

I tried it and found my neighborhood, but the satellite image seems to be old. In the picture, there's a construction site across the street from me, but that was like in late 2002. So I'm not sure how new are the images in other places.

Check it out

it really depends on what area your looking at. when i looked for my house, i could actually see my car in the driveway.

Now thats something!

I've had Google Earth since just after it came out, and though coverage is getting better, neither my college nor my hometown are unblurry yet.

ha, i got it a few weeks ago, its pretty good but like you said many places are still not there! area 51 is on there! and for some reason Las Vegas and New York have like boxes instead of the large buildings......which makes no sense, the only reason i could think of was may be something to do with terrorists but if the building still has an outline...then i dunno....someone said san fransisco was very good on it! if this is available to the public then think how good spy satellites are now!! MSN are starting their own thing actually, ill post the link later, but it only has the US at the moment!

yomomwhat, have you tried checking/unchecking the box that says 'buildings' or the tilt down feature?

I think the program is great fun, although Finland is very, very blurry and too many of the names here are spelled wrong... not to mention that some of them are, for no reason, in Swedish. :t-crazy2:

With 'buildings' unchecked you should get normal satellite photos just like everywhere else.

It is great fun. Last week my cousin from Turku called and I showed him my house. While I know where his house is, of course as you mentioned, it is too blurry. They need to get more of Finland done with detailed images. We were saying that at the rate technology is advancing, we might still one day be able to go outside with the wireless mode on and wave at each others in real time. Sounds silly, but then again just about everything in the line of information technology that is taken for granted today would have sounded silly not all that long ago.
