Goodbye...for now.

Hello, my fellow GCFer’s…

So I made a decision to take a break from GermanCarForums. And it’s going to be a loooooong break at that.

Over the last year or so, I came to a point where I asked myself what I want to do with my life and what I want out of it. Especially, when I’ve seen some of my personal friends and fellow members here enjoying the fruits of their hard work, I realized that they must have put in significant amounts of sweat, sacrifice and effort to get where they are at. And I’m not just talking about cars, a fancy abode or some nice trinket, but some sense of fulfillment and reward.

So for the past few months, I’ve been applying to go back to school and, in a few months I am going to start my next chapter titled “Med School.” I’ve actually been out of school for about half a decade, so it’s going to be “interesting,” to say the least.

While I am looking forward to it, I realized a lot of things are going to have to fall by the wayside. And GCF is definitely on the list. To those who can juggle the pressures of all the assorted challenges life throws at you and maintain a high level of participation here, I do commend you. Alas, I do not fall under that category.

Now you may ask, “why is this joker making a big fuss by posting this?” And truth be told, if I saw someone post this about 2-3 years ago, I would ask the very same question. But after spending time here (maybe more time than I ought to have), I have come to realize why. This place is fantastic. I’ve enjoyed reading and taking part in some great discussions. I’ve learned a lot about cars from many knowledgeable members. There’s really no forum like this that can talk about so many types of cars and maintain some sense of civility. Sure, there are times where it could get “intense,” but with great moderators and great members, civility would be restored and all is well.

And the other reason, I am posting this is a bit of selfish motive. I know there will be a time where I will drop in when I ought to be studying, and I’ll get caught up in the discussion threads and realize that time has just flown by. It’s a way to keep myself in check.

With all that said, and I’m sure I could have said my piece much more concisely, I would like to say thanks for the wonderful time spent. You members are what make this forum such a great place. Hopefully, if and when things cool down from time to time, I may be able to hop back on, and I’ll see a lot of the same folks here and the same quality discussion.

To all here, past and present, I wish good luck, good health, and good bye.

Hoffmeister_fan signing off….for at least quite sometime. :)

Sad to hear - I for one enjoy the quality of your interaction here and the spirit in which you participate. It's a pity that we lose good quality members and somehow manage to retain the rabble we don't need.

On the upside, focus is the key factor for success. If spending less (or no) time here helps you achieve more important goals then you have to follow through on your conviction and I wish you every success.

Good luck and come back when you're ready.

Regards,
Martin

Sad to see a good level headed member leave, but congrats for getting into Med school. Good luck. And hope you will find time to come back later.

Sad indeed, hey buddy I admire your commitment to pursue your dreams and from the hart I wish you the best in achieving your goals! I am sure gonna miss you here. BEST OF LUCK!

It's sad, we have very close tastes in cars, but if it is for your best let it be so. I sat at the university browsing GCF instead of listening and taking notes. It was not a problem, but in the med faculty it will not be possible.

I wish you all the best and good luck, and come back, maybe with some of the cars from your wishlist.

PS: Mark my words: "The M3 F80 will get a V6." In any case this will make you want to log back in on GCF. Don't worry, even if I'm wrong I won't change my username. :D

That sucks man! I always enjoyed reading your comments and creative input regarding how the automotive industry should be going about their business.

Definitely, your presence will sorely be missed. On the other hand, very pleased to hear you got into med school. That is going to be one hell of a tough challenge, but the light at the end of the tunnel is that you will be able to afford that LFA you always really wanted (or whichever car that is most relevant in those times).

Take care.

Russell sends regards to you & wishes you all the best in your life! Take care. :)

Really sad to hear that but I think it's the best thing to do if it will help you achieve your goals!
It's the same reason why I was inactive during 4 out of 5 years of membership in here :)
Working hard paid off in my case and I wish the same for you too my friend!

Med school? Are you serious man? I am very disappointed. After all these years of GCFing I was expecting you to become a mech engineer!

:D

j/k of course. I wish you all the best my friend, and I hope we'll get to see you from time to time!

:t-cheers:

Good luck buddy. I was actually studying back in 2000 and I was following the forum on breaks and rarely participate. So I understand your point.

I can see this in few years that you will be back and looking for your 1st german car :)

good luck mate.

Guys, thanks for all your well-wishes, very much appreciated.

Finally got a weekend break where I am in between tests, so i figure i'd drop on by. Not to say I haven't periodically dropped on by before making the odd post here and there when I needed a brief respite from studying anatomy. And, unfortunately, I don't mean that as a cheeky euphemism....not much time for that unfortunately. ;)

Glad to see the awesomeness continue on GCF, and this new board format is lovely, despite some getting used to. Also glad to see LFA torch continue to shine by the likes of 330CIZHP, Levi, Guibo, et al. :)

Take it easy, GCFers.

Great to see you back, buddy. I am glad you are doing well in med school.

Seeing you enjoy the new information in threads like the LFA etc. during breaks makes the effort all that much more worth the while. Take care. :)
