Autobahn Newbie
Hi!

First of all, let me start by saying that i am a complete amateur when it comes to cars, and thats one of the reasons why i joined this forum .

Which led me to the question..

Golf 5 or Golf 6?

Im deciding which one to buy, im leaning towards Golf6 at the moment, ( did some research and 6 is better ... but still ) but i would like some advice before i make a final decision. So any tip and advice would be very welcome :)

Thanks for the help in advance! :)

Welcome to the forum, I still like the Golf 5 and think it has aged well, but I’d go for the Golf 6 simply because it’s a newer car than the G5 and the interior quality was a step above.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Yeah, and i heard that g6 have good motors as well... any suggestions about which motor should i go after? And how strong? What would be the optimum choice?

Im leaning towards diesel , even tho i live in a city where i have close distance to almost everything, just because i prefer driving diesel than the fuel one. + consumption kicks in as well.

Cheers

The quality step up from the mk5 to the mk6 is quite noticeable. I'd go for a Golf 6 with the 1.6 TDI engine. It should cover all your needs.

Hi

Awesome, most of the G6 i was checking out are TDI 1.6, so i guess thats kinda it....im going to check a couple of em next week.... if i wont go for a 6 at a decent price , g5 sportline is the next choice :)

Hi welcome to GCF, hope you enjoy your time on here cause it is certainly entertaining and all of us car geeks love to have different discussion on various models.

If you thinking of buying a GTi then you would be more than happy with getting a Mk5 version as it was a huge step up in driving dynamics compared to Mk4 plus it looks great and has a good interior.

But for other models then the Golf6 is the better car as it has a better range of engines and transmissions and is the more refined and comfortable car, with an interior that is much better built. It is a fantastic car to drive even in 1.6 turbo petrol form (122 PS/200nm), which has a smooth and punchy engine with good low down torque especially when mated with a DSG box. It would be the one to recommend if you worry about diesels.

Hi and thanks for the warm welcome..
so far you guys are helpful , so yea im enjoying myself on here so far :)

Yea G5 gti will be mine if i do not get a G6 for my budget, im gonna check 2 G6'es this week and decide then.
But i want G6 even more, after reading your comments :D

Let me ask ..., im mostly gonna use the car for driving in the city where everything is relatively close
Im aware that diesel is better for long distances and petrol better for short distances... but still ,should i expect anyhting worth mentioning when driving diesel on mostly short distances?

thanks alot and cheers!

Hello!

First of all im a newbie in the car world so...

Im buying a VW Golf 6 ( or 5 if im not getting a g6 in my budget )

So im wondering.

Should i go for DIESEL or GASOLINE?

Im living in a city where i wont have alot of distance to travel and stuff... so im guessing GASOLINE would fit the bill..

But id like to read some of your opinnions about this matter? Any help would be welcome

Thanks! :)

Howdy!

If im buying a Golf6, gasoline version.
Which motor should i go after/ which one wouuld be an optimal choice?

Let me add that i am fresh driver so i am pretty " green " when it comes to this., thats why im asking .

Thanks alot.
Cheers
