Golf Golf 7 1.2 TSI 110hp easy cheap performance mods?

Autobahn Newbie
Hey everyone,
I have the car mentioned in the title and I need answers, and suggestions, not "sell it and get an older GTI" cos it has sentimental value and I wanna make it a bit more fun to drive.
A bit more sound would be nice but I can't find any aftermarket intakes and exhausts are complicated to get here in Germany since the TUV is strict... Ive got nice thick 205mm tires all round but that's kinda it, I would like to know what are some mods worth the money for the Golf since everyone on YT and other medias only cover the GTI or R models... I have many questions since I recently received the car as promised and I wanna make it mine without ruining it ofc. Are the stock wheels heavy? is it worth getting lighter ones? are front splitters worth it? sorta kinda MCM style, mostly simple bolt ons and a tune in the end since Ive seen this engine make 140hp with just a tune.
Anything is welcome.
Thanks a lot
e.

Sell it and get an older GTI.

Nah, just joking.

Have you considered NOS?

Nah, still just joking.

I actually don't have a serious suggestion. Most fun I had in my FWD cars was thanks to fitting the worst tyres I could on the back, and just inducing lift of oversteer as often as I could.

My mate's had a chip tune on his Mk.7 'R' and it's pretty rapid, but thats 200% more power than you've got available. Thinking about it, his tune went to somewhere above 330hp, at which point the garage said he'd probably need to upgrade a couple of other things before going any further. That was only a ~10% increase for the car. If you're thinking about 140 from 110hp, that's more like 25% to 30% - you're not getting that much overall performance but may be stressing the engine quite a bit.

Well Im planning a track day with a friend of mine, anything I should do to get it prepped outside of the safety stuff? Possibly get an edge over my friends BMW 116di or whatever the diesel 3 cyl is. Do you think the tune will kill the engine exponentially faster?

Brakes that still work after 2 laps, better tyres, and a performance driving course.

Tuning the engine won't necessarily kill it faster, but using more performance than components were designed for regularly for long periods of time, might.

I could be wrong but AFAIR the 1.2 VAG engine has no main bearings for the cranckshaft and it rotates directly in the block. If that's still the case with this engine I would advice no one to try any attempt to increase the power.

Just had a quick google and main bearings are listed as part, but yeah, no bearings would be a really cheap way of ending up with an expensive repair!

Superchips have a remap for the 1.2, I still don't see the point.

Just looking at the dyno charts, it's a fairly useable increase - don't have to take the engine to 5k to get the peak stock power at least.

Then rather than direct performance tuning... Ive seen people doing turbo inlet pipe upgrades reducing input lag and improving turbo spool times, as well as replacing the hose from the airbox, got a K&N air filter now, because its got a muffler on it... would that be a worth while upgrade?
