Global sales 2011: Audi, BMW and Mercedes

Is this the first time Audi sold more cars than Mercedes?
Maybe Audi sell more cars than BMW this year.

In absolute terms, core brand net changes:
Audi sold 210,200 more vehicles in 2011 than 2010; 54,096 more than BMW, 134,448 more than Merc.
BMW sold 156,104 more vehicles in 2011 than 2010; 80,392 more than Merc.
Merc sold 75712 more vehicles in 2011 than 2010

This is quite revealing as Audi seems to be the strongest of the three.

Hi,

do you know if BMW sold more 5-series than Mercedes sold E-class worldwide for year 2011?

As for sedan & touring, yes:

~286,000 units of 5er vs
244,341 units of E-class

While Audi sold 229,200 units of A6 models in 2011.

Btw: 31,300 of A7s, 32,533 of CLSes, and ~24,000 est. 5er GTs were sold in 2011.

It's all in press releases. :)

It's natural Audi has the biggest growth: with two low-end models introduced: A1 & Q3. Mind new low-end models bring volumes! Same eg. happened to BMW when X1 was introduced. And will happen again when CST & sub-1er will hit the markets. While MB can expect some significant boost with BLK(?) mini-SUV. We are talking figures over 100k units per year per new low-end model.

Amazing! Just amazing how strong Audi are now.

I presume that it will outsell BMW this year. THey have some really good models coming up now with the A3 for example. The future is really bright for the four rings. Glad to be a fan :)

The biggest indicator of each brands rightful place will be in 2012 because in the case of BMW is number one product the 3 series goes on sale and very early in the year, Audi will release its A3 again it's biggest seller and Mercedes releases the A-class which is more normal and mainstream than ever before and should appeal more universally than ever before.

Very exciting year ahead.

New A3 This year and the first MB hot hatch in history.
Sales will raise even more especially for Audi and not that much for MB.
But the new 3series will save BMW this and next year but what about 2015 ? ;)

But BMWs biggest market US, 3er doesnt go to sale until the summer.

Still coming: BMW CST FWD minivan to fight B-class, sub-1er models to fight A1 etc. All high-volume sellers. And tons of small and medium sized niche cars like X2, Z2, 4er GC (to fight A5 Sportback), 3er GT, 2er GC etc.

Audi: A3 sedan, A3 coupe, Q1 mini-SUV, A1 cabrio etc.

MB: BLK mini-SUV (to fight X1 & Q3), A cabrio, A coupe / 4dr coupe etc. And be sure MB will eventually come with sub-A models based on smart / Renault-Nissan platform.

IMO BMW will definitely boost sales with the FWD platform introduction - especially in Europe: since the cars will be more spacious, easier to drive (mind many daily drivers still don't like to drive RWD cars - considering them hard to drive!), yet they will be MINI-like agile. With optional AWD availability. IMO a perfect combination in the compact & mini car segment. Mind 1er is almost useless compared to A3 & A-class when it comes to cabin space (especially in the rear seats due to cardan tunnel).

So, all 3 brands will boost sales ... It will be interesting to see the development in US market for Audi (especially after the start to produce cars locally), and situation for BMW & MB in China - when they start selling 3er LWB & C LWB and increasing local production capabilities. Since it seems BMW & MB are catching Audi in China much quicker than Audi is catching BMW & MB in USA.

It will be a fierce battle.

But IMO Audi & BMW will be way ahead of MB - all until MB's introduction of sub-A models.
