Wow, the C class beat the 3 for the whole year, really shocked by that, as the 3 has much more derivatives especially the coupe, the Merc c coupe just came in, and theres no clk numbers bumped in the c sales. very impressive, im sure the f/l really helped.. also very surprised the 7 beat the s class, never saw that happen in a whole year.. e beating the 5 i would guess is not surprising with all the taxi companies buying mostly e classes, even though new 5 was out for a while./. this has to be the most successive e class ever...the Gof is just a monster of a seller, and i dont think the passat sells well in any other country outside of germany....just what the hell happened to the A4???

Whoa, Germany liked it's Benzes, eh? Not surprised to see the E being the preferred/common choice out there, but the C outselling the 3 family is quite a surprise and feat.

Sold cars for year 2011 compare to year 2010
3-series - 62.280 cars sold (-7.9%)
C-class - 79.820 cars sold (+11.1%)
E-class/E-Coupé - 61.371 cars sold (-9.0%)
5-series - 59.756 cars sold (+29.9%)

Compare sales to year 2010 (2011)

4. C-class (5)
5. 3-series (7)
11. Audi A4 (10)
Year 2011 is the last year before the launch of the new 3-series which tells us why the sales for 3-series has gone down compare to previous year.
---
6. E-class/Coupé (8)
16. BMW 5-series (10)
New 5-series has gone up since previous year, 5 places and E-class down 2 places.

PS year 2011 VW Golf/Jetta, VW sold 258.059 cars

Soon-to-be-replaced 3er being outsold by a just-recently-refreshed C-Klasse is no surprise. Wait till the end of 2012. BMW won't be able to supply in keeping with demand for the F30.

i wonder why the audis (a4,a6,a8) sold soo badly this year compared 2 its rivals..germany has always been audis market..especially A4 and a6, looks like the A1 has not sold reasonably well in germany..

Yep..balance should be restored once the new one is out..
But then again its a coupe/cab/sedan and wagon 3er vs C class sedan/wagon.. and the last few months the coupe..
So its pretty good .

Whats more interesting is the fact that the E is outselling the 5er.. the 5er which debuted later;)

Slow start? compare to 2010 5-series gained 29.9% in sales and E-class/E-coupes/cabrios lost 9% . Might be growing for the next year as well.
I wonder if 5er GT is a part of the sales for the 5er and how many E-coupes/cabrios are adding to the sales of E-class. The difference is only 1615 cars between them. But I dont know perhaps E-class always sold more cars in germany than 5-series? Let's not forget about new A6, might outsell both 5er/E-class next year.

EDIT: In Germany Mercedes-Benz has been the Number One automaker in the premium segment since 1993 - source: Mercedes

Not sure why folks are so surprised at the E outselling the 5er, as the Benz includes the Coupe and Cabrio versions, which aren't niche models by any stretch of the imagination.

Damn that Golf just sells, sells...aaaand sells.

I'm prepared to wager an Erdinger that if you took the E Coupe/Cabrio sales out the E-Klasse would still outsell the 5er in Germany.

I expect the A6 to be higher up next time around. The new one looks phenomenal and the reviews are good. I'm amazed not to see a Japanese or Korean car in the top ten.

For every seemingly hundred E Sedans I see, I see one Coupe, so I don't think they'd help enough to truly fudge the numbers enough. Also, I think the 5 GT is supposed to be doing better there than in the U.S.?

Just_Me, last year was the debut year for the F10 in Germany as well, yeah? I think Artists point was that the E fended off the 5er in its introductory year, which is almost always a models highest selling year (although, I believe the E actually improved its Sales in its second year over its intro year), which is what it did VS the 5er in the U.S as well.

E-class: 61,371 units
5-series: 59,756 units
Difference: 1,615 units
Difference as a proportion of E-class sales: 2.63%

Considering the data above, are you still willing to wager the E-class Coupe/Cabrio constituted less than 2.63% of all E-class sales in Germany ? :)

I imagine the 5GT makes up at least 5% of 5er sales..and we all know that car's a true niche.

I must say E-class Coupé seem to be doing well in Sweden. I see many of them and I like the car. E92 was very popular the first years in Sweden but sales are fading away. A5 + A5 Sportback are also very popular and I see more of them then I see E92 and E-coupés. A5 is obviously a sales thief.
