Hes the situation a teacher has an Audi a4 b5 1.9tdi (1999) but the mechanical fuel pump has broken so she can't afford to get it fixed because they are expensive so at the moment the car is sat on her drive way doing nothing.

So she said to me and a fellow friend (because she knows I like Audis) if we would like to buy it from her very cheap, either that it's going to a scrap yard for parts, and do the labor our selves (my friends a mechanic) and then sell it on after.

So what I need to know is information about the 1999 1.9tdi fuel pump, I have found one on ebay, the seller bought the donor car for the engine and is now selling the other parts. Here is the link. Hopefully we will be able to sell the car on for profit:D

What do you think of the fuel pump?

Edit! And what are the things to look out for on the fuel pumps?

Can't really see much from the photo and there isn't much info about it on the website. If it is cheap then just get it and see what happens.

Do you know what went wrong with the mechanical fuel pump?

I wasn't told much by her but I am getting some more info on Monday, all I was told was the fuel pump was broken (could even be the one on the fuel tank:eusa_pray Much cheaper and easier to fix):)

You might be wasting your time. Diesel fuel pumps require specialist refurbishment. That's why you hear the term "diesel mechanic". In order to properly repair the fuel pump, you'll need an expensive fuel pump test bench among other specialised equipment.

A4 b5... BURN IT... OR NUKE IT FROM ORBIT TO BE SAFE... Still have nightmares because of mine 3 years after having it recycled into tuna cans...

You too huh?

If the pump you show is in good condition you shouldn't need to have it rebuilt. But diesel pumps are timed to the engine and if it is off by even a little it can go boom. If you know someone who knows what he is doing you should be fine.
