"Ferrari plans to amplify sound from one or more onboard electric motors before rerouting the roar out through the rear of the car.

Ferrari’s electric supercars will feature distinctive engine noise created through a new amplification system, according to a patent filed by the automaker and cited by analysts at Oddo BHF.

The patent covers a “reproduction device for the realization of a sound that can be associated with an electric motor,” Oddo BHF wrote in a note. Ferrari declined to comment when contacted by Bloomberg News.

That would allow the automaker to amplify sound from one or more onboard electric motors before rerouting the roar out through the rear of the car, the broker said. Ferrari is set to start production of its first-ever electric supercar in 2025.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna told investors at the company’s capital markets day in June that sound is one of the “essentials that characterizes a Ferrari.”

Every engine has its own “signature” sound, Vigna said, adding that he expected Ferrari’s electric cars to have their own signature engine roar too.

Ferrari’s research into electrification supports Oddo’s view that the automaker should be able to offer “a compelling and innovative EV product when it comes to the market in 2025,” according to a note on Tuesday. The Maranello, Italy-based automaker “is not a laggard in that respect,” Oddo said.

“A successful sound-reproducing technology could somewhat compensate for the loss of engine sound,” Oddo wrote in the report."

Well if patents have been filed then this is the future for them, atleast this report indicates.

After fake gas engine sounds, we will also get fake electric motor sounds? I thought fake orgasms was enough...

:D :D

I absolutely despise this idea

Well Ferrari's old stablemates as it were, and designers Pininfarina with the Battista have followed something similar more esoteric I guess!

"SUONO PURO honours the purity of Automobili Pininfarina's design DNA, incorporating wellbeing qualities associated with the 432 Hz frequency. It is warm and uplifting, as found in the positive emotional effect of Tibetan singing bowls and was used by classical music composers such as Mozart or Verdi.

At idle speed, the Battista's sound frequency is 54 Hz (down three octaves from 432 Hz) – a pure and resonant signature base note. The purity of this frequency can be visualised by the way in which it impacts water, creating beautiful, organically symmetrical ripples. The effect of this frequency on the human body, which is in average around 70 percent water, intends to contribute to a sense of wellbeing. Clients will experience this in their own Battista, with deliveries worldwide starting this year."

It's a New World.

Well Ferrari and Pininfarina aren't the only ones>

"(Hethel, UK – 10 March 2021) – Lotus is working with a renowned British music producer, inspired by the engine note of the iconic Type 49, to develop a range of sounds for the all-electric Evija hypercar.

Patrick Patrikios has written and produced for Olly Murs, Sia, Britney Spears, Pixie Lott and numerous other world-famous stars. He was Brit Award-nominated in 2018 for his collaboration with Little Mix, and the tracks he’s worked on have been streamed more than a billion times.

“We wanted to create a soundscape for the Evija that was recognisably and distinctively Lotus,” said Patrick. “I sat with the development team at Hethel and discussed what that should be. We wanted something intrinsically connected to Lotus so we could set an audio blueprint for its future electric cars.”

Patrick loved the idea of using a famous Lotus as a starting point, and what better example than the Type 49 – one of the most iconic race cars of all time. He explained: “There’s a purity to that V8, a raw edge and an emotion that stirs something in your soul, just like the best songs.”

The process began with the recording of a Type 49, which Patrick fed into his computer. In digitally manipulating the sound he and the Lotus team realised that slowing the engine note down created a similar frequency to the natural driving sound produced by the Evija’s advanced all-electric drivetrain.

“I adjusted the replay speeds and digital filtering of the Type 49 to generate a soundscape for the Evija – it was a very organic process,” said Patrick. “We all wanted something to spark an emotional connection between car and driver. Sound is hugely influential when it comes to creating and forming emotions, to enrich that bond that’s such a critical part of the Lotus experience.”

Patrick concluded: “I love that the sound from one of the most iconic Lotus race cars of all time has been the inspiration for its newest. There’s a symmetry to it which is beautiful.”

Welshman Patrick has been a Lotus fan since childhood thanks to his car-loving father. An Evora driver, he splits his time between Los Angeles and the UK. His body of work includes Hollywood movie soundtracks as well as songs from internationally renowned recording artists."

And Lotus Cars have 32.5K subscribers on YouTube? Really?

Anyway I know this is a Ferrari section, but these two additions are important as one, the Pininfarina Batista is already here and delivered and Lotus Evija is a few months away.

Strangely I know next to zero about any such such technologies in the Rimac Nevera.

I absolutely despise this idea
I don't mind the idea as long as the sounds can be switched off. They might be fun for showing off to family and friends but there are detract from a core benefit of EVs which is...............silence. However from a pedestrian safety point of view emitting sound is good.
