  • Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E championship gets underway on Saturday 14 January in Mexico City
  • DS Automobiles, run by PENSKE AUTOSPORT, has a clear objective: to win back the double titles (Drivers and Teams) claimed in 2019 and 2020
  • The two drivers of the DS E-TENSE FE23 are reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne, and Jean-Eric Vergne, the only double champion in the history of the sport

The Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City will kick off Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E championship this Saturday 14 January. It’s an important date for the 100% electric series, marking the debut of the latest GEN3 car.

Encouraged after a strong performance at the official tests in Valencia (Spain) last December, DS Automobiles now embarks on the latest Formula E season with a solid technical package and an exceptionally talented driver line-up.

Driving the more powerful and efficient third-generation DS E-TENSE FE23 developed by DS Performance reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne from Belgium, and Jean-Eric Vergne – Formula E’s only double champion – firmly aim to bring DS Automobiles more victories.

DS Automobiles was the first premium constructor to enter Formula E (in Season 2) and has made its mark on the championship’s history by winning a succession of double titles (Teams and Drivers) in 2019 and 2020, with an impressive series of victories and podiums. Today, DS is known as the most successful marque in the history of the series; holding the record for the highest number of points scored since the creation of the championship.

Thanks to the experience accumulated by DS Performance in designing the fully electric powerplant, as well as its software expertise, the marque is ready to continue its hunt for victories and titles with new partner PENSKE AUTOSPORT.

Season 9 marks the debut of a brand new single-seater at the cutting edge of technology, and the ABB FIA Formula E championship remains a powerful way of accelerating research and development for DS Automobiles, which will exclusively sell 100% electric cars from 2024.

Eugenio Franzetti, DS Performance director:

“Having worked for two years on the development of the new DS E-TENSE FE23 third-generation single seater, we’re finally here in Mexico! This first race represents an important opening chapter for DS Performance. Thanks to unstinting work from the entire team, the talent of our two drivers, and the capabilities of PENSKE AUTOSPORT, we’re feeling confident about this race and the whole season. Of course, motorsport is always full of surprises and we’ve got some very strong competitors too. But one thing is for sure: we’re going to be giving it everything to win again, just as we have always been since starting in Formula E eight years ago.”

Key figures since DS Automobiles entered Formula E:
  • 89 races
  • 4 championship titles
  • 15 victories
  • 44 podiums
  • 22 pole positions
