Correction, I think it started off as a 3.0 and then was later upgraded to the 3.2L

Bum-man: It's a 3.2L" but the car only preduced 240 bhp. So how could they say it had over 100 hp per litre. False advertising?
 
No, I think the e36 developed ~100hp/L at one point in its life cycle.

Edit: I found out... Americans got the shaft with both engines (3.0 and 3.2) producing 240hp, while the rest of the world had M3s with ~290hp and ~320hp respectively.
 
the e36 never got the new M3 engine in the E46 though. That was the 333hp version.....
 
To my knowledge the US spec M3 used the M50 engine for it's entire life cycle 3.0L 240hp. The Euro spec started with the S50 3.0L 286hp and then changed to the S52 in 1995 which had 3.2L 321hp. So this ad must be talking about a >95 Euro M3.
