I have an Acer Aspire laptop and my problem is as follows.

Everytime I put it into sleep mode and then wake it, the screen display goes from 1920 x 1080 to 800 x 600 and messes up my neatly arranged desktop.

Here is my question.

How the f____ do I prevent this from happening? :t-banghea

It's never happened before and only started occurring yesterday and I am already sick of it. I need my computer for a lot of school-related projects and everything on my desktop is neatly and logically arranged. Fixing the screen display and rearranging the icons is getting on my nerves.

Nevermind. Found the solution by googling.

Seems to be a common bug with Windows Vista. :t-banghea

Top Ten Distributions

You can try most of them without installing with live CD. ;) I'm very satisfied with openSUSE. Gonna try Ubuntu 9.04 when they release it in late April.

Well Linux is only for people with computer skills and interest. Printer drivers, sound drivers, special softwares, all this can be a nightmare if you don't have the knowledge/interest/time to play with the computer.

I'm also waiting for 7. Even if I never had any problem with Vista other than that it's pretty darn slow with my comparatively old and low-budget Toshiba laptop, reliability is so far excellent.

This is true if we are still living the year 2005. Ubuntu 8.10 worked in my laptop really "out-of-the-box". It suggested me wifi and graphics drivers. Printer, mouse and 5-in-1 card reader worked flawless. Linux Mint distro is even more ready for desktop as it includes preinstalled flash and media formats.

^^ Really? I'm quite interested then...

Because honestly, 2min to start or shut down, or 15sec to open Word... That is waay too long. Vista is clearly too heavy for my poor computer...

I might give it a try when I have time...

Today I installed Windows 7 Beta but fully activated and working fine. I like it soo far. But anything below 2.0 Core 2 due and 3 Gb RAM (DDR) and 128 Graphics is suicidal

I downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 and burned it. Thought I'd use it from the CD... but ended up installing it (double-boot).

So far, i have only one thing to say: WOW! :eek2:

Looks nice, already more practical than XP or Vista... And so fast! My computer is an entry-level laptop (Toshiba), with a double-core Pentium and 2GB RAM (I upgraded from 1, 'cause it was incredibly slow). It felt very slow and heavy with Vista.

Now it's super-responsive and fast, I can't believe it.
Even Firefox is ten times faster...

Totally amazed so far. If it stays like that, I'll erase Vista in few weeks. No issue, from printer driver to graphic card or Internet or sound, everything flawless.

I thought it was for geeks, complicated and industrial looking... What a mistake!

I owe you a beer ojis. Really. Thanks for the tip.:usa7uh:

I am using Ubuntu for about 2 years now, but i am seriously thinking to switch to Kubuntu, Flash+pulse audio is a ******* depressing combo.
