My favorite car at the show was this 220S! Why? Because of the three 1950s-1960s era dolls in the background. I saw this car pull into the show grounds and assume that this was a family with three beautiful young daughters. As I approached the car I saw that the "daughters" were dolls. They are wearing period correct clothing and hairstyles. They are dressed in their "Sunday best" clothing and this is pretty much how a well-to-do German family of the post-war era would have driven around on a weekend.

Another highlight was this! The oldest car at the show with an interesting history. This is a 1938 Mercedes-Benz 230 Cabriolet B which was first delivered to a customer in Argentina. It returned to Europe sometime in the late 1960s with a Swiss businessman and then ended up abandoned for a few years. The current owner bought it and had it restored. Lovely car.

The W188 300S coupes and cabriolets were the absolute embodiment of "German Luxury Grand Touring" in the postwar 1950s'. The most expensive German automobiles of the day, I believe. Especially the special coachwork (and extremely rare) Wendler W188 coupe with its' characteristic "panorama" rear window is a precious gem of an era luxury classic.

They were indeed. Mercedes are trying to resurect the same glamour with the S650 Maybach Cabrio.

I think that Mercedes-Benz went a bit too far on the S650 Maybach cabriolet. Excessive bling and glitter do not necessarily benefit the asthetics of an automobile. I've never liked that particular car.

Indeed. They were also quite rare.

In 1953 a humble 180 "Ponton" (W120 B I) cost a hefty 9,950 Deutschmarks. A 300S Coupe/Convertible cost 34,500 Deutschmarks.

A basic Volkswagen Käfer in 1953 cost "only" 3,790 Deutschmarks.
