I almost got killed today by pulling out in front of someone who had their left indicator on, fortunately no collision resulted. This got me thinking on how utterly shit the in-car dash repeaters are these days. Many are well hidden behind steering wheels and they make hardly any noise like they used to either. Many serious accidents could be prevented simply by having more visible indicators up on the dash and more audible ones too.
Whilst it's ultimately the driver's responsibility to make sure they cancel them, the same could be said about crashing, yet we continually improve crash safety. It's my view that it simply shouldn't be possible (or at least it should be very difficult) for someone not to notice they've failed to cancel a left indicator if better design were implemented.
