Car insurance prices for 17yr old!!!!!!

One of my kids is at driving age and has started looking for his first car, well that was what I thought before I rung the insurance companies to get a quote for him..... shocking isn't the word.

A Mazda 2 1.3L 5dr, just how much do you think they are looking?

On a provisional license it's £4000 and once he has pass his test and has a full license they are looking another £6000

Yeah that's right £10000 for one years driving in a car that cost £12k.


That the **** is the world coming to when insurance companies feel that is a valid price to charge.

In Sweden its popular young kids to write the insurance on their parents. Stupid thing to do imo.

Statistically, young drivers are more likely to have an accident, so it's only natural that they should pay more for their insurance. Still, the £10,000 Bob was quoted seems a bit excessive... that's for full cover, right?

^ Yeah it's fully comp. Got another quote for the wife to downgrade her car to the Mazda and put him on it which works out at £2700, still terrible but nowhere near as bad. It will mean the idea of the 328i for her being scrapped but I may still go and see it and go for it myself cause hates driving the Cayenne cause of its size so it would give her the ability to drive something she had her heart set on..... least I can do.

All I need to check is whether the chair fits in both cars first.

Having worked at an insurance company, I know that we didn't look favorably at younger drivers, and since we weren't competing on price, when it comes to this riskier demographic, our quotes would purposely be very high for the simple goal of deterring them from wanting to take up a policy with us.
