Car and Driver: 335i Sedan short test (Note: 0 to 60mph in 4.8 seconds!)

I think C&D exagerates their numbers a bit... that goes for any car they test.

Most magazines do....However it sounds like this thing is going to be awesome. BMW is probably worried that the gap between this and the upcoming M3 may be a bit to thin...:)

Or the new M3 will be on different planet

Outstanding numbers. Even though this is just a "preliminary" test, the data from various sources now are all pointing to the same direction. This 335i (sedan or coupe) is one hell of a performance machine. It brings you performance which is in the same league as the E46 M3, W203 C55 AMG, and just beats the B6/B7 S4 in every way.

Note that the skidpad grip of 0.89 is HIGHER than that achieved by the E46 M3 by Car and Driver.

Sportauto also got greater skidpad numbers with the coupe.
WTH didn't BMW gave the 335 a LSD and some proper tyres ?! :t-banghea :t-banghea

PLEASE BMW MAKE the M3 THAT GOOD. :eusa_pray

Also thank you MB and Audi for pushing BMW.

Imhotep....I KNOW the M3 will be that good. I personally think that this 335 is just the teaser for the next M3. This is like the little sister of the M3...even if the M3 isn't crazy fast in a straight line compared to the 335, we all know that it's meant for track and therefore will be a monster on track.

The M3 will be for both track and everyday use.
The track version will be the CSL, and who knows maybe another GTR street-legal.

Oh I know that the regular m3 will be for both on and off track what I meant was that the 0-60 times might not have a huge gap between the 335 and M3 but the track time will even on the normal m3

Well they don't fudge the numbers, but they do use the brake/torque acceleration method which will always yield great numbers. They also got a 4.8 sec 0-60 time for the E550 in their latest comparo, faster than the 5.2 secs of the 550i. Most other magazines will get with 2-3 tenths of C&D's numbers and maybe one other might match them.

They know their numbers are pretty much unattainable for the average driver which is why they also include a 5-60 mph rolling start test also, these numbers are far more real world for most drivers. C&D is by far the best of the American mags when it comes to testing and data though.

I can see other mags getting a solid 5 second 0-60 time for the 335i.

But for me it wasn't the 0 to 60 that impressed me. It was the skidpad numbers, medium acceleration, or the fact that in one test or another the 335i coupe bested the likes of S4, C55, CLK63, E46 M3.

I now that the new M3 will be the better track car.
