The Caparo T1 is the closest thing to a street-legal F1 car money can buy, well it will be once the thing actually goes on sale, and it’s just proven it’s the fastest kid on the block by setting a new record around the Top Gear test track. The two-seater set a new lap record time of 1:10.6, an astonishing seven seconds quicker than a modified Koenigsegg CCX which held the previous record.
There is a catch, however. Top Gear specified that in order to appear on the board, cars must be capable of driving over a speed bump. In their opinion, the T1 would not have been able to do this and was subsequently removed from the top of the leader board.
The model tested was a final engineering test-mule without adjustable ride height and electronic active driver control systems, which will be standard on the production models.
Interestingly, the T1’s time was also better than the unofficial time of 1:12.8 set by the Ultima GTR last month.
