Cameras Canon EOS 5D Mark 2

I got rid of my EOS 450D and I have been saving my pennies for a very long time, and am considering getting a EOS 5D Mark II. I know it is a huge jump (both in terms of spec and price) and curious to know if there are any members here who could chime in. Would love to hear people's views on the camera (Pro's and Con's?) The one thing that does bother me is that it uses Compact Flash memory instead of SD memory, anyone know why?

.........also anyone know if there will be a successor coming out any time soon?
