Lap record attempt in the works?

Bugatti has quietly begun testing the Veyron Super Sport at the Nürburgring.
While the company hasn't made any announcements, speculation has suggested the automaker could be attempting to set a new lap record. If this is the case, the supercar would have to lap the Nordschleife in less than 6:48 to beat the Radical SR8LM.
As we have previously reported, the Super Sport features a quad turbocharged, 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine that produces 1,200 PS (882 kW / 1183 hp) and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the supercar to hit a limited top speed of 415 km/h (258 mph), but an unlimited model set a land speed record for production cars when it averaged 431 km/h (268 mph) in 2010.

It would be really nice if the Veyron could set a new lap record. It deserves to.
That will not happen. At least not with 2 tons and that huge amount of power. According to Horst von Saurma the car will be capable of a laptime of 7.30 min, but only with hundreds of horsepowers less...
