Buffalo takes on Merc: News: General News: Wheels24
A Bloemfontein broker's Mercedes-Benz was badly damaged by a huge buffalo at the weekend.
Frik du Toit was taken aback when he found that a buffalo had pierced one of the car's doors with a horn while the car had been parked overnight at the Otterskloof hunting farm between Philippolis and Luckoff.
Besides the hole in the door, the other three doors were also dented and scraped and one of the windows was shattered. The buffalo had also moved the 1984 model Merc about half a metre to the left.
Buffalo tracks around the vehicle left no doubt as to who'd been responsible for the damage.
"This buffalo is related to Mike Tyson. It will kill you," joked Du Toit.
He said he was shocked to find that the buffalo had chosen his stationery vehicle, which was also covered by a grey sail cloth, to damage with its massive horns.
Du Toit and his sons arrived at the hunting farm on Friday and parked the car at the entrance. When they arrived back at the car on Sunday, they were met by what surely would be a nightmare for any car-lover. "I was very upset. But I'm especially sorry for my sons, I bought the car for them," he said.
Ederik, 18, who shared the car with his twin brother, Jacques, also wasn't impressed with the buffalo's handiwork. "It was such a smart car. It's not that nice anymore," he said. However, he had to admit that the incident lent a unique air to the vehicle.
Abel Erasmus, the owner of the hunting farm, said the six-year-old buffalo had been unusually aggressive over the past six months. He apparently often charged at people moving about on the farm. But it was the first time the buffalo had attacked a stationery vehicle. Du Toit believed it would cost at least R10 000 to repair the damage to the car.
