M6 BMW unveils the M6 Gran Coupe

The BMW M6 is a high-performance version of the 6 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand from 1983 to 2019 (with a hiatus from 1990 to 2004). Introduced in the coupe body style, the M6 was also built in convertible and fastback sedan ('Gran Coupe') body styles for later generations. An M6 model was built for each of the first three generations of the 6 Series. Production of the M6 ended in 2019 and it was replaced by the BMW M8 (F91/F92/F93) in 2019. Official website: BMW M

Since the 70s BMW offered their mid-size sedan, the 5 series, with a slightly different body-kit and a truly amazing engine, calling it the M5. The M5 was (and still is actually) what many like to call "a wolf in a sheep's clothes". What this phrase essentially means, is that very few people will realise that you have about 550 horsepower under the bonnet of your 5er. Which for many people is a good thing. Then there are these who want to enjoy a great M engine with the practicality of a four-door body-style, but do so with style. We are very certain that this group of people will be pleased to hear that BMW unveiled the M6 Gran Coupe.

The Gran Coupe is the third model of the 6 series family, after the coupe and the convertible to receive the M treatment. This translate in the S63TU Twin Turbo V8 engine, which produces 412 kW/560 hp and 680Nm of torque, thanks to a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Direct Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-Vanos continuously variable camshaft control, which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic and an Active M Differential.

The updated looks were heavily influenced by technical considerations, such as cooling air requirements, chassis geometry, weight balance and aerodynamics. The first thing we notice is the new M kidney grille designed especially for the M6 GC. The flared wheel arches, the M gills integrated in the front fenders, the aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors and the exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design help distinguish the M6 GC from the normal 6 GC, as will the twin exhaust tailpipes.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
