BMW to sell 2M vehicles four years ahead of schedule

You. The Road. Nothing else.
BMW
says it will hit its ambitious goal of selling 2 million vehicles worldwide a full four years ahead of schedule. Reports surfaced last summer that BMW’s strong sales could push the automaker to its production goal
well ahead of schedule

BMW Chief Executive Officer Norbert Reithofer confirmed to Bloomberg that the company was on pace to hit the 2 million unit mark by 2016 – four years ahead of its original target of 2020. BMW sold 1.67 million vehicles worldwide last year. This year should be a major stepping stone in achieving that goal as the German automaker is expecting record profits and sales. “We are targeting new highs in sales volume and pretax earnings for 2012,” Reithofer said.Reithofer added that 2012 is “off to a promising start”, with January and February setting all-time marks for the company.Europe’s debt crisis is expected to decrease BMW’s sales on the continent by about 5 percent this year, but China and North America should make up for that decline. BMW expects its Chinese sales to grow by 10 percent this year, with sales in North America predicted to climb by a “high single-digit” rate
