Italian auto supplier Brembo has announced today that it had started supplying braking systems and brake discs to BMW. Over the past quarter some of BMW’s high-performance models swapped to a new set of six-piston caliper brakes manufactured by Brembo and more models are expected to follow suit within the next twelve months.

Starting next year BMW will also start offering special Brembo braking kits as an optional accessory in its factory performance parts range.

Brembo is already one of the most widely recognized brands in braking technology, equipping affordable performance vehicles such as the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi Evo, right up to the supercar arena with the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. The high-performance brakes are usually distinguished by its brightly painted calipers, often in red or gold, but the BMW units are designed to remain subtle, reports Automotive News Europe.

Thanks to the deal Brembo’s net profit rose 86.8% to $18.13 million in the third quarter.

Most excellent news!

Brembo is probably the best brake supplier in the world, and that's clearly evident when they are currently supplying: Ascari, Pagani, Ford (when the GT was in production), Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and a whole host of others.

Finally BMW is doing something about their braking system. The current system perform well enough, but the M cars have been criticised for lacking in brake endurance.

This is true, from what i understand the most common upgrade to the E46 CSL is a set of proper brakes, the rest is about top notch. The OEM brakes are good enough for ordinary hard use but not the way many owners treat their cars.

In past 10 years i've owned 3 BMWs and i've never had a simple complaint about brakes, in any weather conditions.

Damn, I thought BMW are already using Brembo's. I driven a few BMWs and their brakes always seems, to me anyway, have a bit more bite in them than my Merc. Well, with Brembo as supplier, it'll enhance what I think are already good braking systems.

135i is the first bimmer to use Brembo.

The brakes on bimmers isnt a problem really, they are good and with short brake distance. Its when you push the car real hard on a track then they start to fade.
On the streets they work 99% of the time. Using brembo you make something good even more better.
