BMW M GmbH celebrates their 40th anniversary

You. The Road. Nothing else.
Four decades of success

BMW M GmbH is celebrating their 40th anniversary with a look back at the models that made the brand what it is today.
Starting at the beginning, BMW Motorsport GmbH was founded in 1972 and consisted of 35 employees who worked under Managing Director Jochen Neerpasch. Under this tenure, the company developed the 3.0 CSL and a rally-ready 2002. Neerpasch also managed to attract a number of racing drivers including Chris Amon, Toine Hezemans, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Dieter Quester.
Having found success on the track, BMW M started offering high-performance versions of the 5-Series in 1974. They featured a sport-tuned suspension, beefier brakes and more powerful engines.
The company came into its own with the introduction of the M1 in 1978. A remarkable supercar in its day, the M1 was homologated for production and a few hundred road-going models were built.
In 1980, Neerpasch left BMW Motorsport GmbH and was succeeded by Dieter Stappert. He would oversee BMW's entry into Formula 1 with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 800 PS (588 kW / 789 hp).
Four years later, the company launched the M5 and the M635CSi coupe. The sedan was described as a "wolf in sheep's clothing" and featured a 286 PS (210 kW / 282 hp) engine which enabled the car to hit a top speed of 245 km/h (152 mph).
After finding success in Formula 1, BMW turned their attention to touring car racing and introduced the M3 in 1986. Equipped with a four-cylinder engine that produced 195 hp (143 kW / 192 hp), the model proved to be a stunning success.
In more recent times, the company's lineup has expanded to include a vast array of models that are available in a variety of body styles. Earlier this year, the company launched M Performance Automobiles which has a lineup that consists of models powered exclusively by a tri-turbo diesel engine.

BMW has announced plans to introduce the M6 MotoGP safety car at this weekend's M Festival at the 24 Hour Nurburgring race in which it will lead the M Corso parade.
The company declined to release details, but the car features a front splitter, a gloss black grille and a prominent rear wing. There's also a light bar and BMW M livery.
It remains unclear if there have been any performance modifications, but the standard model has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with 560 PS (412 kW / 552 hp) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Now celebrate that with N/A engines you ****ers!
Is the CRT coming in limited numbers too?? I really don't see other options as the new M3/M4 are coming soon and the CRT still hasn't been released...

What? 40 years of BMW M GmbH and no commemorative special edition? Seriously?

If they don't release an appropriately celebrative effort then I swear BMW's marketers have gone soft in the head. Sheesh - do something at least!

Better nothing than another stupid paint job - frozen violet with indigo stiching...

Call me immature but all I can see is boobs....

Not even in their 40th anniversary they have the guts to show a spicy proyect.

BMW M definitely has something for the 40th anniversary. I just hope it is not a car with special paint or some special model like M5 CRT or X6 M CRT but something M worthy and with an epic NA engine to celebrate its end. I just hope the M3 CSL E92 is true.

Actually, word is BMW marketing have been working around the clock on a commemorative special edition car, and are launching an even newer.. newer nomenclature, on top of an even newer.. newer SUV.. err, SAV:
