Qinghai / Shenyang. The BMW Group is intensifying final testing for the
BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase in China, putting the first Neue Klasse model
developed specifically for Chinese customers through one of the most
comprehensive validation programs ever conducted for a BMW electric vehicle
in the market.
From the high-altitude plateaus of Qinghai to rapidly changing weather
environments that can shift dramatically within a single day, the BMW iX3
Long Wheelbase is being tested under the full spectrum of China’s unique
geographical and climate conditions. The validation program covers extreme
temperature fluctuations, strong UV exposure, steep mountain gradients,
dense urban traffic, long-distance highway driving, heavy rain, cold mornings
followed by warm afternoons, and complex road surfaces found across
different regions of the country.
China presents some of the most demanding real-world scenarios for electric
mobility. In many regions, drivers can experience multiple climate zones
within a single journey, requiring a vehicle to maintain stable performance,
predictable range, thermal efficiency, charging capability and driving comfort
regardless of rapidly changing external conditions.
For BMW, efficiency is not defined by laboratory figures alone. It is measured
by how consistently a vehicle performs in everyday use, whether climbing
mountain roads at high altitude, navigating congested megacities, or adapting
seamlessly to sudden temperature changes during long-distance travel.
The BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase prototypes are therefore undergoing intensive
real-world testing focused on thermal management, energy recuperation,
battery conditioning, charging stability, ride comfort and intelligent energy
distribution. Engineers are validating how the Neue Klasse technology
platform responds under the highly diverse environmental conditions unique
to China.
Particular attention is being placed on high-altitude testing, where thinner air,
significant elevation changes and demanding gradients create additional
challenges for cooling systems, energy management and overall vehicle
efficiency. At the same time, rapidly changing climate conditions within a
single day are being used to evaluate the precision and responsiveness of the
vehicle’s integrated thermal management system.

The final validation phase demonstrates how the upcoming BMW iX3 Long
Wheelbase has been engineered specifically for the complexity and diversity
of real-world driving conditions in China.
Extensive testing across high-altitude regions, rapidly changing climates,
dense urban environments and long-distance highway routes allows BMW
engineers to precisely optimize thermal management, energy recuperation,
charging stability and overall system efficiency under demanding everyday
conditions.
The result is a Neue Klasse model designed to deliver consistent electric
performance, long-distance confidence and everyday usability across the full
spectrum of conditions experienced by customers in China.
Engineered for China and produced by BMW Brilliance Automotive in
Shenyang, the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase represents the next chapter of
BMW electric mobility in the country. The model combines global BMW
engineering expertise with deep local testing and development to ensure the
highest standards of quality, reliability and customer-focused performance
across all conditions encountered by customers throughout China.
