Munich. In the course of its successful product and market initiative, the BMW Group intends to strengthen and extend its position as the world’s leading premium manufacturer in the automotive industry over the years to come. The retail target of 1.4 million vehicles, originally expected to be reached in 2008, will be met one year ahead of schedule. Thanks to the high desirability of the BMW Group model range, goals for the future remain ambitious: “We want to pursue our profitable growth path further in the years ahead and intend to deliver a total of about 1.6 million BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers in the year 2010“, announced Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Helmut Panke, at the Annual General Meeting in Munich on Tuesday. This would mean almost a doubling of Group retail volume over the course of ten years since 2000.

“With our ongoing product and market initiative, the BMW Group will continue its successful course in the years to come, showing further positive developments in terms of revenues and earnings“, emphasized Panke. He also reaffirmed the BMW Group’s confident expectations for the current business year. The company intends to reach a new record in retail volume as well as a new high in pre-tax profit of euro 4 billion. “Despite headwinds arising from currency effects and high raw material prices, 2006 is going to be the most successful year in our company’s history, also in operative terms“, stated Panke."

I'm sure BMW will meet their targets, the records for sales figures are being re-writted every year!

It looks as if having Bangle on the design team has been a very wise decision for the BMW group!

Well actually, Bangle was on the BMW team since the early 90s and the E46 3 series and X5 are mostly his work.
The new wave of design was given a go when Reitzle was out and it was clear in the late 90s that the E39 5er and E38 7er were not capable to compete with
MBs oferings.

well yes and no
the E39 was arguably not the most intriguing or most provative BMW ever, but it had every single competitor licked

bangleization came in after it was clear the one sausage 3 sizes philosphy was taken to the extreme and could go no further

Not as far as sales go.

_____BMW 5 series___MB E klasse___Audi A6

1997: ~229 000_____~277 000_____~ 89 300
1999: ~201 000_____~247 000_____~161 000
change: -11.9 %_____- 12.75 %_____+ 80.3 %

And even these preaty good, cause if we take out USA sales, were the E39 was highly succesfull, the E39 would have been a sales flop.

Basicaly it could compete, as far as sales go, with E klasse only in the USA
and few other places.

The E39 was basicaly humiliated by the E klasse.

Maybe the reason why I remember the E39 as such as great car was because of the M5, which definately had it's competition licked!

Imhotep Evil, I knew Bangle was in the design team in the late nineties, I'm just saying the change in design, beginning with the E65 7er has had an effect on sales!
