The truth, as it turns out, is rather more simple than the myth. It features the colors of the Bavarian state flag and is modeled on the logo of the predecessor company, Rapp.

The myth that came to be believed is that the logo represents a propeller, as BMW began by building aircraft engines before making motorbikes and cars. The company has a history that spans more than 90 years.
