M3/M4 BMW Cutting Cylinders for M3 and 1 Series

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
We all do!!! The inline 4 engine will be fitted into M1 though, with twin turbo.

Now we have two ways to get that I6 M engine:

1. Cut the V12 longitudinal
2. Add two pots to the upcomming I4 in the 1-Series M engine

Tada!

Tarek needs this: :D

Haha..luckily i'm not the insecure fan here on forums..;):D

I really hope BMW doesn't go with the V6 T thing just for the sake of die hard M fans,that would just the final blow after X5/6 M cars..:D

Be honest what is really left of bmw M?

X5 M and X6M ---> 2300kg
M3 ----> 1600kg
M5----> 1700kg

etc.

New bmw GT4 M3 is 1430kg. That s a racecar for gods sake. 1430kg!!!!!

So tell me what s left of bmw Motorsport. Only good thing is the wtcc 320si and ALMS. Even alms is doubfull RSR are faster.

Not even to mention what s left of bmw motorsport streetwise.

Future is turbo:( for M3 and 1 series.

Turbo for all M models I'm afraid. The most interesting model could easily be the upcomming 130i 1-series coupe with the great 272 hp engine. Take that one and strip it off its interior and add a Quaife. That is what an M car should be all about.

M is for muscle

*sigh*

This sound bad: V6TT for the M5? Oh... how ultra non-exclusive.

2015: The next M3 will be the “best” M3 ever and faster than today’s car, said Willisch. Work on the future M3 hasn’t begun, but an inline-six and a V-6 are both being considered. Expect E30-like levels of mayhem.

No

V6 is the definition of uncool.

did uncool stop porsche from selling water cooled engines or even diesel ones? or BMW from selling the 335i without a rear mechanical differential? etc etc, the only thing that matters to manufacturers is the way forward, not the way back.. unfortunately

Mike

When Porsche moved from air cooled engines to water cooling there was a lot of upset, no doubt.

Regarding the 335i not getting a proper LSD, that was well in line with tradition as the latest non-M car having that option was the E30 325 (as far as I remember) and that model was way more extreme when it was released than the 335i is now.

V6 in a BMW? Well. I don't think we have to comment that any further.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
