After an absence of almost 20 years, BMW will to return to the DTM series at this weekend's Hockenheimring race.
Six M3 DTMs will compete in the series and they will attempt to build on the company's previous success which includes 49 wins, 30 pole positions and three drivers' titles.
In order to beat their rivals at Audi and Mercedes, BMW equipped the M3 DTM with an "air restricted" 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces approximately 480 PS (353 kW / 473 bhp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed sequential transmission which enables the 1,200 kg (2,645 lb) race car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about three seconds.
In a statement, BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquardt said "Hockenheim has a special place in the DTM history of BMW, and we enjoyed major success there between 1984 and 1992. We obviously want to follow on where we left off, but we will have to take it one step at a time."

6th is a great result! But to be honest, they were so unlucky today. I can tell that they have a very fast car under their belts, the car looked so quick, but they lack some of the experience Audi and Mercedes have and i guess some of their pit stops were a bit slow.

Yes, trail and error stage. Hope they sort the teething problems quick.

BMW started the day with plenty of optimism because of the good qualifying results on Saturday. Unfortunately things did not go as well on Sunday. Werner, who had started third, initially lost three places at the start of the race, spun after a collision with Ralf Schumacher and dropped back to the end of the field. Werner finished the race in 17th place. Defending champion Martin Tomczyk and BMW’s new signing Bruno Spengler retired after various collisions on the first four laps.
