BMW 1-series tii concept could enter production with 340HP

BMW’s Concept 1-series tii has been causing a bit of a stir of late, with word getting out it’s housing a more powerful version of the 335i’s 3.0L twin turbo. The rumor comes from a group of German journalists who have apparently driven the car. With the U.S. introduction of the 1-series just around the corner, it makes sense for BMW to test more powerful versions and expand the limited range of models coming to the world’s biggest car market. Currently, only the 125i and 135i are scheduled to go on sale in the States.

Interestingly, the engine is said to be tweaked to produce 340hp, up from the original 306hp, suggesting it may be the basis for a possible hardcore version, according to the guys from AutoBild. A car as potent and light as this could easily blitz the competition, as its RWD setup will give it the precision and control not possible in most of its rivals due to their FWD or AWD powertrains.

The concept also featured a fully aerodynamically tuned bodykit and plenty of carbon-fiber to keep weight down and strength up. The carbon-fiber roof, as seen on the concept, could also become a trademark of BMW’s high-performance coupes.

One thing about BMW is that most of its concept vehicles usually end up in production either as is or with very few modifications, however with this one BMW will have to tread carefully as it could turn out to be a possible M3-killer. Production plans may not be concrete yet, although we certainly hope BMW goes ahead with it.

As I said in the tii thread days ago: A birdie who was in Tokyo told me N54 engine featured in tii Concept was up-tuned to 340HP.

:t-cheers:

I guess AutoBild have the same sources as my birdie does. :usa7uh:

Noone care, go ahead and produce the car

Oh, when will we hear about those driving reports from the germans?

With this strongly rumoured 340hp output is there any idea of the 1er-tii's power-to-weight ratio, especially in comparison to the M3 Coupe?

I wouldn't say it's an M3 killer.. but definintely with that power and its weight advantage, it would be able to run with the M3 easily.

Anyhow... fascinating development of the 1er family! :)

cool.. i hope they give it mean face..:D

You have already seen the Concept version and no surprise, you dissed the car first time you saw it.
with those frontlights you can't give the car a mean face but still the car looks f**** awesome.

Tii is number one on my bmw dreamlist, even M3 stand in the shadows IMO.

Maybe because you own that mofo? ;):D

:t-cheers:

my car isnt even close to the Tii. I love it, carbonfibre = good handling, race seats, a drivers car :eye8:  Ony if it could reev to +8000 rpm it would be a perfect 10, now it just a 9.5 :D.

PS I want those kidneys for my car
