By time time things in Europe started to improve the need for such a car was disapearing. Also cars such as the Fiat 500/600, Citroen C2V and the Mini repalced bubble cars. The Mini was made to get ridd of/ replace "those bloody bubble cars". And that "bloody bubble car" was the only thing profitable for BMW back than.

I mean, BMW remains an exclusive brand, and such a car hurts the image, no matter how good it is (you can never ever make such a car with BMW's standard driving dynamics). MINI would be ideal for an ultra small trendy hatch.
