BAC confirms ‘House of BAC’ presence and global reveal for Monterey Car Week

BAC will be part of this year’s Monterey Car Week – the first time the company will have an official presence at the iconic automotive and motorsport gathering in California. In keeping with the dynamic and thrilling nature of the brand, BAC’s Monterey debut will see its carefully curated ‘House of BAC’ HQ host a surprise exclusive global unveiling.

Having ended 2022 by delivering its 150th customer car, BAC has gone from strength-to-strength in the first half of 2023, boosting its senior leadership and announcing numerous new in-market partnerships across North America and Asia. By being part of Monterey Car Week, BAC’s global elevation continues apace. While most of BAC’s key developments and announcements for 2023 have so far focused on strategic growth levers, the company’s highly anticipated global debut at Monterey promises to be something altogether different.

The ‘House of BAC’ is a redefined, organic-inspired ranch, located at the heart of the Carmel Valley, a stone’s throw from The Quail, featuring an extensive vineyard. The site has been carefully curated by BAC in tandem with BAC USA to deliver a Monterey experience in keeping with BAC’s values and DNA. The senior executive team – including co-founders Neill and Ian Briggs, who are also head of product development and head of design respectively, and recently appointed chairman Mike Flewitt – will welcome guests throughout the week and weekend.

Single-seater line-up expands as British firm ramps up efforts to become global performance brand

Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) will reveal a new derivative of the track-focused, ultra-lightweight Mono R at Monterey Car Week on 17 August, as part of its wide-reaching strategy to become a global brand offering "high-performance and ultra-luxury" cars.

The as-yet-unnamed derivative has been developed under the British firm's "one-of-a-kind" philosophy, while offering a “new dimension” to its line-up.

BAC said the car stays true to the performance and handling characteristics the industry has come to expect from its products while allowing it to tap into new markets and become a larger presence on the world stage.

It's tipped to be powered by the same Mountune-sourced naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as the Mono R, with wider-bore cylinders and a new billet-aluminium crankshaft that allows the rev limit to be raised to 8000rpm.

At 136bhp per litre, BAC claimed the Mono R represented a “global record” for a road-legal atmo engine, with a 555kg kerb weight giving a power-to-weight ratio of 612bhp per tonne. The result was an Ariel Atom V8-rivalling 0-62mph time of 2.5sec and a top speed of 170mph.

The Liverpool-based firm will introduce the Mono R's new sibling at Monterey Car Week in California. It will be unveiled at the House of BAC ranch in Carmel Valley by recently appointed chairman Mike Flewitt, along with co-founders Neill and Ian Briggs.

Prices are yet to be revealed, but most examples of the limited-run Mono R sold for well above £200,000, meaning this new derivative could sell for at least as much.

A turbocharged 332bhp Mono F will eventually join this derivative in BAC's ever-expanding range, powered by the 2.3-litre Ford Ecoboost engine from the Ford Focus ST, delivering 332bhp and 295lb ft of torque.

I don't think there has ever been as confusing a line-up of models as there is in BAC. Which is weird because they essentially only have one.

First there was the original Mono with a 2.3L engine. Then they upgraded to a 2.5L engine - this is most often referred to as the "Mono 2.5". Then there was the limited edition Mono R.

But now it gets confusing, because several years ago they showcased the "next generation" Mono - still called just "Mono" - which looked similar to this, but used a turbocharged engine. Was that ever produced? Is this new new Mono replacing that? Either way, this new new Mono is now back to using an NA 2.5L engine. Apparently.
