Vs Autoexpress: Porsche Panamera vs rivals

1st Porsche Panamera S

2nd Mercedes CLS 63 AMG

3rd Audi RS6 Avant

4th BMW M6 Coupe

CLS still looks good. I'm surprised a Panamera S could beat all these cars.

Hmm, weird group of cars. Only thing they tested is 0-60 and 30-70 and M6 tops both but ends up last cause SMG is not good for normal driving?

Quite wierd at first glance, but the only one that really stands out is the Audi.

Regarding the SMG; whiners :D

^ When BMW comes with the F10 M5/F12 M6. People seem to forget that the M5/6 is very old by now...

The M6 was there as the dynamic benchmark against which we could judge the Panamera. You're right, the Jaguar XFR would have been an interesting addition to our line-up, but the all-new XJ is closer in concept and will also be available in supercharged V8 guise.

I think that is a good mark for the M6.

Will the new M5 hit 0-60 before 4 secs? It will be interesting if it does.

I don't think it will. Even if it does, Porsche certainly have another 50hp of ammunition they can add to the Panamera as well as -20mm suspension and put the M5 back in second spot. Audi got a taste of this when they though that the R8 was officially a 911 killer, but when the 997 Mk.II came out, it became clear who the boss is.

Not that BMW often does any further changes with a M car, they sure are capable of modify their M5 to be more competive with, for instance Panamera if they want too.
But its quite silly to argue about such things when the M5 hasnt been released yet. When people do such things it means someone is a little bit nervous for the upcoming M5 ;) lol!

Very possible but very costly. The Panamera has the benefit of being from the ground up developed to be a demon four door saloon while the 5-Series is first and foremost a passenger hauler with super saloon as a secondary occupation. Besides that BMW's priorities are currently not performance oriented cars, so they might very well have accepted that the M5 has been dethroned by Panamera.

There is nothing unusual about it though, the Panamera cost a small fortune while the M5 is more reasonably price. Porsche a very good at what they do, even Ferrari and Lamborghini got a taste of it when the Carrera GT was introduced. I still regard the M5 as spectacular performance saloon. The E60 M5 is one if the most equisite piece of machinery out there, especially that majestic V10 engine. It and the E46 M3 are the two Bimmer I aspire to own at least once in my life.
