I agree - you've got to be a very specific (and a. rare! and b. selfish!!) customer to want a GTI with a rollcage and no backseat. I'm sure it's a blast to drive though but I can't help but feel that this car is aimed squarely at trackday enthusiasts. And, if this is the case then do you really buy a GTI for such needs? Look, the raw numbers certainly attest to this car being amazing on a track - I'm just curious as to how predictably adjustable the car is at handling limit extremes.
The RS looks the part it is quite aggressive and mean looking, but the GTi Clubsport CS is THE car to have it is amazing on the track and above 180kmh is faster than the RS. I would probably go for the GTi as this version is super rare.
I'be been a little underwhelmed by the RS. This isn't the first time it's been beaten by a FWD competitor. Strange that its braking performance should be so much worse given a theoretically better weight distribution but I guess that's the affect of more weight. Probably where it lost the time too.
