Just watching WatchDog on the BBC tonight were a guy bought an R8 for his business which he was told it had a 5 star NCAP safety rating but after he father had a quite serious accident he dug deeper and found that NCAP had never tested it. He thought like many would that it's was a mistake by the dealer but after ringing 50 other dealers nationwide 48 told him the same lie.

The WatchDog team took up the story and visited 10 dealers themselves asking about the A5 another model which also hasn't been tested (along with the A7 and A8) were told by 8 of those dealers it had a 5 star rating.

We expect professionalism from Audi's face to the public (sales persons) but it appears that the only thing which has changed from the shady car dealers of the past is the quality of the suit.

I doubt this would be limited to Audi.

Product knowledge is poor amongst many salesman. 1/2 the time they can't even tell you if a car has digital radio, let alone the NCAP safety ratings.

In this case they've obviously just assumed, hey it's an Audi so it must be 5 star.

^You are probably right they aren't alone on this but it's no excuse in my eyes, these guys are selling a service which is meant to reflect the professionalism of the brand, not knowing your product is dire. One or two dealers would be easy to pass off but 48 out of 50, come on. One sales person knew the A5 wasn't tested but thought since the A4 had and got 5 stars that should mean the A5 would receive the same..... unbelievable.

I'm actually shocked that the A5 after several years production hasn't even been tested, I assumed it was compulsory but clearly not.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
