I am not here to say that AWD is not a good thing and RWD is better specially on track, but I am just trying to find some logic that. If the R8 and Gallardo AWD is nearly a RWD, then why cary the extra weight? Then again, if AWD is so much better for track (not rally), why does not the 911 GT3 RS have the AWD from the 911 Turbo S? If AWD is so much better, why do not FIA regulations for GT cars not change? Why does not Ferrari build AWD?
I will answer: to each, person and brand its own. AWD is nice for every situation, but when it come to track, it should be RWD, and Audi should follow this if they want to claim having a street legal track car. The R8 GT would perform even better and be much more fun if being RWD. It would no have traction problems as a 600 HP supercharged M3, and look the ZR1 and 911 GT2 RS have no problems with there FI torque and RWD, they run the N-Ring under 7:30 min, the P under 7:20 min. The R8 GT has just the good amount of torque to make the car move without smoking tires.
Audi R8 GT street legal track car with AWD is like BMW building an off-roader with 1000 Nm and RWD.
