I know the R8 GT is better than M3 GTS in performance, chassis and handling, but if it wants to be a real track best a rival the M3 GTS and 911 GT3 RS it has to lose its Quattro for RWD. The same case goes for Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. On track you should not rely on AWD but on your one abilities. AWD does not make tracking less risky, as tracking is already taking risks. If AWD is so much better, why does the R8 LMS have RWD? Why does the Gallardo Trofeo have RWD?

The reasons for the R8 LMS and Gallardo Trofeo not using AWD has nothing to do with RWD being the better option of a trac car, far from it in fact. In any case when the AWD system normally placed 85% of it's total power to the rear wheels it couldn't be described as a traditional AWD.

I am not here to say that AWD is not a good thing and RWD is better specially on track, but I am just trying to find some logic that. If the R8 and Gallardo AWD is nearly a RWD, then why cary the extra weight? Then again, if AWD is so much better for track (not rally), why does not the 911 GT3 RS have the AWD from the 911 Turbo S? If AWD is so much better, why do not FIA regulations for GT cars not change? Why does not Ferrari build AWD?

I will answer: to each, person and brand its own. AWD is nice for every situation, but when it come to track, it should be RWD, and Audi should follow this if they want to claim having a street legal track car. The R8 GT would perform even better and be much more fun if being RWD. It would no have traction problems as a 600 HP supercharged M3, and look the ZR1 and 911 GT2 RS have no problems with there FI torque and RWD, they run the N-Ring under 7:30 min, the P under 7:20 min. The R8 GT has just the good amount of torque to make the car move without smoking tires.
Audi R8 GT street legal track car with AWD is like BMW building an off-roader with 1000 Nm and RWD.

That's true right there. ;) Driven the R8 V8, hard pressed to find a fault in the AWD system of the car. I was able to get the tail out on Infineon Raceway. :D

I'm not going to argue this point because such discussion have been gone over many times before. The regulations are such that rwd is the drivetrain of choice and for very good reasons that may or may not escape you and for this very reason that is why Porsche and Ferrari, two companies with very profitable privateer race programs develop and sell their GT3RS and Scuderia.

I will happily discuss why the R8 and Gallardo have an AWD setup that adds weight yet for all intense and purpose behaves for the most part like a RWD. The reason is the added traction and the ability to shift power forward thus balancing the chassis when required, two things that make their chassis so great and loved the world over. Personally I think that weight penalty is well worth it but each to their own.

Ok. In this way you will have to try the BMW X6 M. You will like it (if you are objective). 2 times lower and 2 times lighter and it will be 2 times better than R8.

After a brief drive in the new Cayenne S I can only assume that the X6M will be quickly forgot about and the new Cayenne Turbo will take it's rightful place as star of the SUV market once again.

Are you a critical car enthusiast? Are you working for VAG? Are you a 16 year old VAG fanboy? Or are you as me, that recognizes the week points of the brand you are fan and recognizes the strong points of the other brands?

Is seems to me that you know what are the strong points of other brands (BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati,) but do not know the weeks points of VAG because their cars are PERFECT. You are a very strange guy. I just can't guess how you are but to me you seem to be the very contrary of an enthusiast. You are so harsh, even through your kind expression, and you are always right, you never make any mistakes. Are you then a perfect man? The ideal man?

??????????????

Like everyone my opinions are based on my experiences I have had and will ultimately be influenced by the brands I prefer, this will be no different than yourself or anyone else. But why ask what I do or who I work for, surely such things are not important, no one is always right but occasionally we do sometimes get it right.

P.S.
VAG have failings, far too many to mention but this is true for all of them.
