2016 Audi R8 LMS

€398,000 (plus VAT) with starter and parts package
Following its official introduction at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Audi's brand new R8 LMS is now available on order.

The GT3 race car has already triumphed at the Nürburgring endurance race and it also claimed two podium finishes at the Spa 24 Hours. It's now available for customer teams and can be had from a starting price of €359,000 (plus VAT). Audi Sport is also offering an optional starter and parts package which raises the price to €398,000 (plus VAT).

Compared to the old model, the 2016 R8 LMS has lost 25 kg (55 lbs) even though it has received new kit such as a quick-adjustable foot lever system, roof-mounted rescue opening, height & length adjustable safety steering column and an Audi Protection Series PS1 seat connected straight to the chassis. Speaking of which, Audi's engineers were able to shave off 30 kg (66 lbs) from the chassis and they also boosted torsional stiffness by 39%.

In this motorsport specification, the naturally aspirated V10 5.2-liter engine pushes out up to 585 PS (430 kW) and sends that power through a new 6-speed gearbox equipped with paddle shifter.

Production of the new Audi R8 LMS will commence on September 21 and the first deliveries are programmed for the end of this year.

I'd love to see the LM GTE class replaced by GT3's at LeMan's there so many more manufacturers supporting GT3 it would really improve the race IMO.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
