Audi may join other German car makers by building an assembly plant in the United States in the next few years.
Audi CEO Rupert Stadler told TheCarConnection that a U.S. plant isn’t needed now but if Audi sales hit 1.2 million units globally, it would have to be considered.

Highly unlikely though, they're maxing out existing production facilities, and there's plenty more in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.

The link doesn't specify which cars this potential factory could produce. I would think that the Q7 would be a good candidate since North Americans love their SUV's. Didn't the Q7 not sell well in the US though?

Very interesting. This would greatly help the image of the brand in the States. Sticking the 'Made In The good old U.S of A' on some heavy marketing could do wonders!!!

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
