As you may know already, Audi announced that this October it will begin building the A1, right after it will be unveiled at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show but it appears that this is not the only plan of the German manufacturer! According to our sources from Audi, a convertible version of the A1 is also in the works because the Germans want to take on Mini Cabrio segment and ruin their sales. Continue reading...

Cool ...

They have already showed 3dr A1, 5dr A1, now the cabrio ... so in the future two more models are coming, I guess :D : mini-SUV (Q1), and sub-TT coupe based on A1 platform.

Never follow? :t-hands:

^ More like always follow. They are trying to do what BMW does, but BMW does it with Mini.

Audi should never make statements like this regarding MINI , MINI is more than just a brand it's a culture. A1 will never reach the heights of MINI as it has. With the MINI Coupe and Speedster we have just upped the game.

Speaking of Audi and I apologise for going Off-Topic but why has anybody not posted the road tests that are fairly negative of the A5 Sportback , so far the only ones posted are US tests which makes you wonder if they have driven the car at all? The British and German media have been brutal saying it looks good , looks sporty but is anything but.

Although the negative tests of the BMW X6M are posted in abundance.

yeah, read those too. they were NOT positive, not at all.

I don't think it was a comment from an Audi official but a remark by the author of the blog so there is no need to take this thread off-topic with Mini vs Audi debate.

Neither is this the thread for discussion concerning unfavorable X6 M / A5 Sportback tests.

Back to topic, please.

I can say this to Audi...."Don't count your chickens before they have hatched!":D

The Mini is a HUGE success globally and expanding, it's a cult car with a following and a heritage whilst also being an icon. Audi is frankly non of these!:eusa_naug

BMW's best move - moving forward in this segment was obtaining the MINI brand!:t-cheers:

LOL ^
But wouldn't it be smarter for Audi to have a sub-brand for premium small cars too????

Another brand in the VAG's portfolio???? :eusa_doh:

Yet the NSU (Ro, Prince etc) revival would be interesting ... :usa7uh:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
