Ascari Cars Ltd. was a British automobile manufacturer based in Banbury, England, and founded by Klaas Zwart. The company was named after Alberto Ascari (1918–1955), the first double winner of the World Championship of Drivers. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2010.
That didn’t take long. Literally just a week after we told you the Ascari KZ1 had snuck on Top Gear’s Top Five Power Lap list, it has been unceremoniously booted by the Pagani Zonda F. Top Gear’s finest piloted the Zonda F around the Top Gear track faster than any car in the list’s history, including the previous number one place holder, Maserati’s MC12. Since the Ascari had only been hanging on to the last spot in the Top Five, the ensuing downward shuffle of the entire list landed it in sixth place.
