Trying to say a VW is some type of standard for reliability should have been a red flag to begin with. Any VW for that matter.

That's what perplexes me about VW products. It appears they have mastered the art of creating a sense of overwhelming perceived quality without actually having the reliability to back it up. That Golf which feels tactically beautiful on the inside and when you slam the doors etc. is going to have far more rattles, creaks and mechanical issues than that humble Corolla parked across the road after 40,000km's.

Reliability?

This is a favourite car contest. You can keep your J.D Power over there in the U.S.

My VW has been more reliable then either of our BMW's or my wife's Mercedes and has held its resale value much better too. I am always perplexed by Americans hatred for everything VW. Besides, this was a European award and like it or not, VW has a decent reputation on that continent as well as Asia, South Africa, and South America. Off topic anyways. I do hope VW doesn't keep the award. Looks. Ad on their part if they do.

It's quite simple, terrible reliability and really shitty dealer practices. No one I know with a VW is happy with it reliability wise.

That's a shame. North of your border, VW has a very good record for reliability and they hold their values just as well as Honda or Toyota. Dealers are top notch too.
