991.2 C4 test drive

Hello everyone,

I thought I share some limited impressions on a 991.2 C4 convertible with PDK, 20inch wheels and standard exhaust. It was a brief test drive with the car barely warmed up as it was a cold day (~high 10F). My reference points are my 2014 base Cayman, our family Macan S and my bro's GTI.

I don't think I went above 4000 rpm as the car had 20 miles on it and road conditions were not favorable. Immediately you notice that the engine sounds different: quieter and muffled. For a turbocharged engine, its sounds pretty decent but I still prefer my 2.7L Cayman engine and exhaust note (again this is based on a very limited impression). I tried a few short lived pulls with PDK in higher gears and I believe that's when you detect lag the most but then it picks up nicely). Overall the throttle tip in and response is more than adequate, definitely less laggy than the GTI.

The steering, again limited impression here, feels lighter weighted than the cayman and is probably less direct with regards to response. More driving and better conditions are needed to dish out any meaningful verdict.
For some odd reason, the 991.2 felt like it was the end result of a one night stand between the cayman and the Macan S.

The interior is all too familiar. The major difference is the infotainment. Esthetically the screen looks nicer and its much more responsive. I didn't care to fiddle with it that much but it seem like a good overhaul.

I'm fond of the exterior touch up that Porsche has done but most non-car people will have a hard time spotting the differences.

Late spring, I'll be taking deliver of my very own, custom built 991.2 Carrera with a 7 speed manual.
In the good words of Arnold: "I'll be back".
