Vs 5th Gear: BMW 1M vs Audi RS3

In almost all lap time comparisons the RS3 is behind the 1M though nowhere near as bad as what Fifth Gear got, maybe it was the track not suiting it (doubt that), maybe it's not as good a track car as the 1M (probably true) or maybe Higgins aggressive approach didn't suit the handling characteristics of this particular Audi with its Haldex system (most likely). One thing was very evident, Tiff's show-boating stop when a serious lap time was called for unlike Higgins who handbraked and tried to bully a lap time out of the RS3.

I still think the 1M would have won this outcome even with a neater lap from the Audi, but it would have been a little closer.

A caterham 7 is vfm. A bmw, 1-series, at 40k you're havin' a laugh, when for 10k more you can buy a cayman r which is ten times the car any bmw will ever be. I suggest you read this if you haven't: http://www.germancarforum.com/inter...autocar-britains-best-drivers-car-2011-a.html and yes you should forget brand preference.

Unfortuanly a Cayman R costs too much and cannot transport four adults. A Cayman S is a better value than Cayman R too. Insurance costs are also higher for Porsche than a BMW where I live. Also Im no racing driver so I can't explore these cars too the limit on the streets, so 1M is good enough. More important for me though is that 1M is a better daily driver than a Cayman would be.

Anyway, obviously RS3 isnt about driving joy like 1M. Sounds more like RS3 is doing all the work and not the driver.

Why do you say that? Is it cause you can fit one more person behind passenger?

I can fit three om my friends in a 1M and and I can also fit a baby and a wife at the same time in 1M too. I assume trunk space is more roomier and vision from car driving in traffic is better in the bimmer. Getting inside and out of the car is also easier in the BMW.
Trust me, I have considered cars like Z4, TT and Cayman but they simple do not fullfill my needs. Otherwise I would own one in a hearbeat.

You can fit three people in back of a 1M?! You must be short then. The trunk space in the Cayman is suffice the front one especially unless you're hawking around dead bodies all day,in that case a linclon town car would be a better choice:D. From experience the driving position of the Cayman R is fine, and is something nomarlly highlighted in reviews.

I've even been three people in the backseat of my 1-series Hatchback. Its not a 5-series but it works alot better than it does in a Z4 or Cayman. Sorry to break the bubble ;) but Cayman is no passenger car like a 1-series. If it works for you , then I say congratulation to you and happy driving with your Cayman :usa7uh: I'm jelous, I admit it :)

Short? 1.83 centimeters and a weight of 87 kg.

My bubble is still intact since I never claimed it was. If transporting more people is all you're after then I guess the 1M is the better choice, and quite possibly the only thing it will do better than the Porsche.

It's not like I transport people all the time but it happens. Like I said earlier I have considered cars like Z4, TT and Cayman but the cars doens't fullfill my needs. I'm sure Cayman is a better drivers tool in the hand of a pro but its not like 1M been accused of being a bad car or a boring car. I'm sure I will have blast in 1M too.

Again, I dont judge people for buying a Cayman instead of 1M as long as people dont judge me for buying 1M over a Cayman. To each his own, Simple as that :usa7uh: and if I ever buy a Cayman, Cayman S is fine by me, better value too than a R.

Poin taken. The only Cayman I've driven is the R so I couldn't tell you if it's that much superior over it's lesser editions.

Do you have a baby and a wife? I do, and I can tell you that I wouldn't even try getting them in a two-door car unless I absolutely had to...
