Yes, you read it correctly HALF A MILLION BMWs are being recalled for electrical faults.

No wonder BMW always rates towards the bottom of the JD Power Reliability surveys. The cost cutting zealotry does result in poor reliability and recalls and rust in new cars.

BMW has announced a global recall of more than half a million cars over an electrical fault.
BMW Australia says about 17,500 owners of affected BMW 1-Series, 3-Series and Z4 models will be asked back to the dealership to fix a faulty battery connection, which could cause the vehicle to stall.
According to a release from the company, ‘‘the positive battery cable connection and corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time’’, which may cause ‘‘a breakage of the connection and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle’’.
The Detroit News reports that BMW is aware of one incident in which a car did stall and the vehicle crashed, but no-one was injured.

Locally, a mix of the previous generation 2007-2011 model 3-Series, the 2008-2012 1-Series (as well as current 1-Series coupe and convertible models) and 2009-2011 Z4 models are affected by the safety action.
BMW Australia says it will be advising owners by mail if their car is affected. Those who are unsure if they need to have their battery connection inspected are advised to contact their BMW dealer, or try the group’s Customer Interaction Centre on 1800 813 299.

They are playing a dangerous game..thought they learned from Mercedes.
