Mazda launched the electric EZ-6 saloon the recent Beijing Motor Show in Apr 2024. It initially was only to be offered for the Chinese market but new indications are that this car will be launched in Europe as well.

Personally I think its a very attractive replacement for the aging 6 model and in China will be sold as either a BEV or PHEV.

Mazda has already shown the EZ-6 electric sedan for China, and now the Japanese could also come to Germany. The info!

At the end of April 2024, the EZ-6 was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show. The Japanese initially announced that they would sell the sedan exclusively on the Chinese market. Now, however, Mazda has undergone a change of heart and will now offer the electrified sedan as a global model.

Mazda said the EZ-6 will launch in the fall of 2024, initially in the Chinese and European markets. The Japanese brand has not specified exactly which European countries it is serving, nor has it confirmed availability outside of China and Europe. It is not yet known whether the sedan will also come to Germany, but it is conceivable.
Platform suitable for electric and hybrid vehicles
The Mazda EZ-6 uses the EPA1 platform, a Chinese electric sedan produced by Mazda's joint venture partner Changan. The platform is mainly designed for electric cars, but according to Mazda, it is also offered with a plug-in hybrid.

A continuous light strip with round taillights adorns the rear of the EZ-6.

We know that Mazda will sell the EZ-6 with both powertrains in China, but it remains unclear whether the plug-in hybrid will be offered in other markets such as Europe. The electric model is said to deliver a range of about 600 kilometers, while the plug-in version is said to get over 1000 kilometers on just one tank of fuel.
Two power levels up to 255 hp possible
Official performance details were not published. However, it can be assumed that the EZ-6 will have very similar specifications to the Chinese Deepal SL03, with which it shares the base.

Untypical for Mazda, the tidy interior is without buttons, but there are large displays.

This means that EV models could be offered with 58.9 kWh and 66.8 kWh battery packs. The basic electric motor would produce 215 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque, while a powerful version would produce 255 hp and 320 Nm.

Mazda’s European research and development centre experts have already been in China and have “dynamic performance tuning and validation of the MAZDA EZ-6 at the Chongqing Automobile Testing Grounds,” according to Mazda. Whether there are any Europe-specific changes to the chassis or drive hardware, or whether the China version has been validated for Europe, is not mentioned. Mazda emphasises that it has “leveraged its extensive expertise in dynamic performance tuning from the gasoline vehicle era” to increase the driving pleasure of the EZ-6.

Changan contributes not only the EPA-1 platform, but also the driving assistants. The EZ-6 is to be equipped with a level 2.5 semi-autonomous driving system. The system utilises a 7nm Qualcomm SA8155P chip, four high-resolution panoramic cameras and twelve high-performance ultrasonic radars.

The Mazda EZ-6 is 4.92 metres long, 1.89 metres wide without wing mirrors and 1.49 metres high. Its wheelbase is 2.99 metres. In the design of the saloon, Mazda has opted for continuity with the combustion models: The EZ-6 has a black but closed ‘radiator grille’ at the front, giving the saloon a combustion engine-like appearance.

The car has a very sleek and elegant exterior design, personally I like it very much.

The interior design looks very luxurious and upmarket. The quilted leather material looks classy and is on the door panels and makes the seats look very comfortable.

Maybe so, but it looks a heck of a lot better than the new A6 e-torn.
Well, that’s putting the bar quite low LOL.

But hey, in these weird times for auto makers, I trust Mazda. There is one in my family and the car is just fantastic for its price.

Front: Gorgeous
Rear: Like with the majority of EV saloons the design falls apart from the middle of the car towards the rear. Too tall and bulk tail gate.

I like the rear end. The bottom boot lid and bumper shape are so different from other cars; they're not vertical but curved. The taillights, for a design that stretches across the whole tailgate, have some imaginative design in the graphics. The front end does look fantastic as it has front overhangs and doesn't look front wheel drive, which it is not!!. Great Scott the 6e is a RWD saloon.

The interior looks luxurious, I especially like the seat and door fabric/microfiber. The central screen is the same as any other Chinese and Tesla car nowadays unfortunately.

I've had an affinity for Mazda for quite some time. My dad owned two of them. 626 sedans, purchased new in 1984 and 1989. He often said that they were the best cars that he ever owned. They followed his 1980 C2 Audi 100 5E, which he was also quite pleased with.

This new EZ 6 looks quite nice. And yes, it is visually far more appealing than German products such as the Audi A6 etron or M-B EQE sedan.

Unmistakable Chinese EV look.

Really I think it looks very Mazda, and the interior is an evolution of the current Mazada interiors.

Thank God it won't have Chinese quality.

What's wrong with Chinese quality? Have you ever been anywhere near a Chinese EV like a NIO, Zeekr, XPeng, Volvo, Polestar, Lotus? I know several people who have gone from Euro cars to NIO's, perceived quality, what you can touch and feel is easily as good as my BMW.

I do think this car disguises its size very well. It looks more like a Tesla Model 3 sized car but is larger.

Its exterior dimensions are quite close to the EQE, Tesla Model S, Lucid Air and VW ID7.

Following its debut in the 2024 Beijing Motor Show, the Mazda EZ-6 has now been unveiled at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in Belgium for the European market, albeit with a different name, now dubbed the Mazda 6e.

Joining the MX-30 as Mazda’s (only) second fully electric model, the Mazda 6e will go on sale in Europe in the summer of 2025, followed by the United Kingdom by mid-2026 – the latter potentially as the model’s first right-hand drive model, in line with the marque’s “first global new energy vehicle”.

The Mazda 6e is developed in collaboration with the Japanese carmaker’s longtime partner of 20 years, Changan Automobile, combining both Mazda’s ‘Authentic Modern’ vehicle design and performance together with the Chinese automobile brand’s electrification and smart-cabin technologies.

The Mazda 6e itself is based on Changan’s Deepal L07 (previously called the SL03), but while the latter is also available as a range-extender electric vehicle (REEV) in China, the Mazda 6e/EZ-6 will be offered plainly as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) at this time.

Over in Europe, the Mazda 6e will be offered in in two different powertrain options. The first, called the “Long Range”, sports an 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack, offering 552 km of range (WLTP) and a single motor rated for 245 hp and 320 Nm. In performance terms, that’s 0-100 km/h done in 7.8 seconds, onward to a top speed of 175 km/h.

A base Mazda 6e is also available in Europe, equipped with a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack offering 479 km of range (WLTP). Curiously, the single motor actually boasts a higher output here at 258 hp and 320 Nm of torque, which – in conjunction with its lighter weight – translates to a slightly faster century sprint time of 7.6 seconds, while the top speed remains unchanged.

Interestingly, it’s also the “lower-end” base variant that gets the faster DC charging support of up to 200 kW, translating to a 10-80% charge in about 22 minutes. The more expensive Mazda 6e Long Range in Europe only supports up to 95 kW of DC power, requiring approximately 45 minutes for the same amount of charge.

As for AC, both variants come with an 11 kW on-board AC charger, taking eight or 9.5 hours to charge from 10-80% for the base and long-range variants respectively.

The interior of the Mazda 6e contains features that aims to improve the bar for safety and convenience. Smart functions such as an intelligent drive system supports the driver including accident mitigation technology, and smart cabin has voice, touch, and gesture controls for in-car interaction.

With the right-hand drive Mazda 6e slated for launch in the UK soon, could this signal the arrival of the EV sedan here in Malaysia too? Bermaz Auto, the sole distributor for Mazda vehicles here has also recently cosied up with Changan Automobiles for the distribution and sales of the latter’s Deepal EVs here in Malaysia. Only time will tell…
