I have watched a few videos on some broadcasts by vloggers on their visits to the 2024 Beijing Auto Show and I was shocked on just how the Chinese car industry has advance so quickly in such a short time.

They have so many new brands and car launches that are hugely impressive. The technology on their cars is every bit as good as the best from Europe and the US.

Check their electric car dominance and models at the show. They have so many cars and SUVs that have massive electric power with 800 to 1200 HP and battery sizes with over 100kwHr, some having up to 150kwHr.

Then there are the prices of their cars and SUV's which are so low and smash the European and US cars for value for money.

If I was an European, US and Japanese car manufacturer I would be very worried about the onslaught of the latest Chinese cars, they look hugely impressive.

Thanks for creating this thread, Rolf. Hopefully we get some good contributions and nice shots.

Another interesting video. The Zeekre models are very stylish cars. There are also some SUVs that look like the Land Rover Defender in a way but are alot cheaper.

It’s gonna take more than style and tech. They gotta prove they don’t fall apart in your driveway after a few months.

I would be worried about their EV batteries as I have seen countless videos of cars that has burst into flames. Some cars have had reports of suspension parts breaking off due to defective welds etc. The Chinese brands should follow the German cars way of testing in extreme weather conditions in Snow bound countries like Sweden and hot countries like Middle East and rack up a Million KM and then check its vehicles reliability to make sure they bulletproof.

I had a brand new Chery Tiggo 7 rental down in Cape Town at the end of last year. Front brakes fault and electronic bugs galore. Chinese cars are flooding the SA market but there’s still a long way to go before the reliability stacks up to the visual appeal.

I thought you were better than that, the EV's bursting in flames is red herring, used by the ant EV crowd. The Chinese supply EV batteries to everyone, including Tesla.

China gets plenty of snow and you don't need to go to Sweden to find it if there isn't enough at home.

Beijing car show:

- 278 EV models

- 139 EV brands

All Chinese. Beijing supported their industries with 250 billion Dollars in '19. We can likely add another 50 billion to that in '24, if not 100 billion.

How much money did the US give to Chrysler and GM when they were going down the crapper during the financial crisis, a financial crisis caused by greedy bankers who were then given hundreds of billions to keep said banks afloat? How many billions has been given to Boeing in subsidies whilst corporate greed has cut quality control and delivered hundreds if not thousands of potentially unsafe aircraft?

Everyone likes to beat up the Chinese when we should really be looking at ourselves. A great example of this is the war which the US desperately wants to have with China that's leading to Australia to spend $400b to buy nuclear submarines to defend the trades routes to there largest trading partner from said largest trading partner. You couldn't make this up if you tried.

I mean, try a bit harder, for the big picture.

You also might want to look up what Japan is doing. They are building the 3rd largest army in the world at this very moment. Australia is peanuts compared to that.

I too love comparing apples to oranges! So that we have in common at least.

You mean the big picture where the US is financially screwed, seeing the downfall of US hegemony, watching the slow death of the dollar and the lifestyle it brings with they only way to back themselves out of the near 40 trillion dollar debt is to go to war, that big picture??

Where does Japan find the manpower to operate the worlds third largest army, they have the lowest or second lowest birth rate in the world, the have a population that isn't interested in joining the armed forces, to fight an enemy who is there largest trading partner, that said after the horrendous atrocities the Japanese carried out in China from 1931 to 1945 which left 23m civilians dead, crimes which they largely got away with without any punishment I couldn't blame Chinese for wanting to even the score.

I wonder why the EU could not do the same? We pay the highest taxes in the world and we're forced to buy the most expensive products which means Europe is rich.
Think I know why, EU governments spend 20-30% of GDP on social benefits, payments to lazy unemployed at same time we need a lot of workforce but europeans are too lazy to work these days and we're hiring lots of asian migrants. EU is ran by clown politians who only know regulations and tariffs.

Average unemployment rate in the EU is running at ~6%, only marginally higher than China's ~5%. Social care and welfare does cost a lot of money, but the idea 'lazy unemployed people' are absorbing 20-30% of national budgets and that's somehow stopping EU nations from subsidising or funding national economies is stupid - especially considering the hundreds of Billions of Euros redistributed annually by the EU from national contributions to the EU budget - a budget comprised of tax revenue from only 450 million people, versus China's 1.4 Billion people, that still sees them running at a budget deficit of ~ €625 Billion per year currently, whilst spending ~€539 Billion on their own 'lazy unemployed'.

I didn't meant to say that 30% of GDP is absorbed by unemployed but 30% of France and Italy GDP is public social spending and the they still can't fix their social problems. An advanced country like Switzerland is at 17%, China is 10%. Tech companies in China pay 10-15% while corporate tax in France for green industry is higher 20-25%.

Looking at the numbers the EU can't compete with China and its not even trying too hard.

It’s good to see more creativity when it comes to design. Remember when it was more like this?
