Yeeeahh... I wasn't so much of a fan of the use of 'Eclipse' in the DUNE trailer... fantastic way to finish an album, not great for re-working into a Sci-Fi epic trailer... ... maybe just me.

Also, as a David Lynch fan I won't get too protective about what he did with DUNE, because I wasn't really a big fan of that, and I'm not familiar with the source material, but the thing I found immediately off-putting about the trailer for Villeneuve's DUNE is the choice of actor for Paul Atreides, certainly preferred Maclachlan.
Timothee Chalamet is a very talented actor, so far I liked his performance in most of his movies. It’s really about whether he can live the character or no, and I think and hope he can. Also this is less controversial as the Robert Pattinson Batman role, but seriously, both can turn out to be great. The whole cast is awesome, really can’t wait to see this movie. Regarding the trailer music I like this trend of remaking great songs, just like a few years ago with Valerian and the city of a thousand planets, or most recently the new Batman where they used Nirvana. Wasn’t disappointed with the Dune choice as well.

I kinda had a hunch that you, a massive Pink Floyd fan, may not take a fondness to the use, especially when it's fettered with. Whenever someone messes with song or band that I like, I am not keen either, so I sympathize.

Regarding Lynch's version, I just don't think a space epic is really his wheelhouse. Him weaving the surreal, unseamly weirdness in everyday life is where he shines. I've seen bits of his version and what I seen didn't do it for me. I kinda remember Gordon as Feyd. And speaking Feyd, @martinbo, I looked into it briefly, and as far as I can tell, there's no one cast for that role. I may revisit Lynch's take sooner rather than later. I have yet to see Inland Empire, so I may make it a marathon once a chance arise.

I was planning on reading the book during this past year, but like all good intentions.... I am semi-familiar with it since it's so often referenced in pop culture. What has me excited is Villeneuve's involvement. That guy is so damn good. BR 2049 still has left an indelible impression on me. Sicario, Enemy, Prisoner, Arrival...all good stuff.

I too had some misgivings about him. I've only seen him in Interstellar, and there, his role was quite minuscule. He's had quite a bit of acclaim with his roles in the past 2-3 years, so he'll probably do well.

To be honest, it's not even that it's a remake of the song, I just don't see what it brings to the trailer unless you're a Floyd fan, and if you are, what's the culmination of DSotM got to do with Dune? It's like a really lazy cash in to get blokes of a certain age interested! FWIW, I'm not against people covering such songs, at the time I really loved the inclusion of a 'new version' of "Another Brick in the Wall, pt 2" in the film 'The Faculty'.. not the greatest song, but it worked when they used it.

Maybe when the film is released they'll do more with it, but taking a bit of such a seminal album out of context just seems wrong to me.

Visually Lynch's Dune was quite something for its time, maybe not in execution, more in originality. I think I saw it about the same time as I did Disney's 'The Black Hole', and of course I was watching Star Wars a lot, but the look of Dune always stuck with me, even if I was never a fan.

... and it's no Eraserhead. Blue Velvet. The Elephant Man. Wild at Heart. Twin Peaks.

I doubt they will use it more extensively in the movie, most likely it will be all cinematic music. I don’t think the trailer music will move an audience, I’m not a fan of Pink Floyd, but it just fits the trailer as it is very well.

After Dune, here comes the Foundation series
