About a month ago we were presented with the Concept WRX, Subaru's latest performance model. The first thing that surprised us was the fact that it is supposed to be a stand alone model, being separated from the Impreza. Then we were amazed by how good the concept actually looked - a design very radical given the Japanese car maker's politically correct approach in respect to their designs.
So, what we see in this set of spy photos is the production version of the WRX concept. Despite the swirly tape camouflage, we can recognize many details, so the production WRX will be a toned down version of the WRX Concept. The trapezoid grill will stay, as it seems. Yet, the front and rear bumpers and light units will be changed. A massive rear wing will also be offered.
The question a German car fan will ask, is this one, though: Will this WRX threaten the new S3, the M135i and the just introduced A45 AMG? So far, all we know is that the WRX will be power by a four-cylinder, two liter turbocharged unit that will develop over 300hp, which, in turn, will be sent to all four wheels. If the weight is kept at a logical level, it can certainly offer the same level of performance as the three Germans. But the will the overall experience be different? That's a question open to debate, so please stop by and tell us your opinion in our forum discussion (link).
