Breaking News: 2012 GT-R Leaks, More Confirmed Info on Upcoming GT-R

http://img831.imageshack.us/i/gtrbloggtr352001.jpg/

The 2012 GT-R (2011 JDM) is in the final stages of pre-launch preparation and we’ve received tips from sources close to Nissan regarding the final look of the new GT-R. Above you can see many of the GT-Rs new cosmetic external updates that we’ve already noticed while pouring over spy shots from Nurburgring. It’s finally confirmed though that the new GT-R will feature LED driving lights/daytime running lights integrated into the front fascia. Yes these are not photoshops.

Along with the driving lights you can see the shape of the canards themselves is different to previous model years this change plus other changes from a reworking and restyling of the front bumper have improved the GT-R’s already stunning aerodynamic performance. By the numbers, the GT-R’s coefficient of drag (Cd) drops from 0.272 to 0.268. Combine that with a rear downforce improvement of 10% thanks to a redesigned rear diffuser and the GT-R continues to redefine what is possible for today’s supercar.

Most noticible on the photos though is the new blue. The official (tentative still) name for the blue is Aurora Flare Blue Pearl (color code RAY) but what you can’t tell from this photo is that the GT-R gets a new black too. The updated black is officially (but again, tentatively) called Nebula Opal Black (color code GAG). These two colors represent the only body color changes for the 2012 GT-R base and premium models.

Speaking of base and premium models, earlier speculation that the base model goes away was partly true, the base model GT-R is now named the Pure Edition, but the features remain the same. To go with the changes comes a small increase in pricing. Starting with the Pure edition which is hit with a 80,000 yen bump to 8,694,000 yen. The Premium edition receives a larger bump of 210,000 yen to 9,450,000 yen in Japan.

Let’s try not to get too distracted by those minor negatives though because there’s a wealth of positives going on here. Take the new wheels for example, each new Rays forged aluminium wheel cuts 3 kg (6.6lbs) off the GT-R’s unsprung weight – a total of 12 kg (26.4 lbs) around the car. So they’re lighter but they also manage to be stiffer too to improve steering response and feedback. Lastly, the wheels are available in two colors starting next year, an attractive 3 layer ultra deep paint process known as Hyper Blue Black and a Hyper Titanium color.

It only need 50+ hp and a proper Launch Control. Everything else is perfect. :usa7uh:

530hp is the rumoured number. And it will have proper launch control, it seems. :usa7uh:

The DBA-R35 will be introduced with a fourth version of Launch Control, which we can all now call LC4. LC4 holds the RPM’s at 4,000rpm before unleashing its “significantly” improved torque on the tarmac. This time, Nissan says you’ll be able to accelerate and utilize grip to the “maximum degree.” Zero to sixty times have improved they say, but they’re keeping quiet on just how much the performance has been improved by.

Very interesting information. Kudos to Nissan for not becoming complacent with this truly unique and desirable automobile. The mid-life cycle changes that are being reported here are quite substantial.

This car represents an exceptional value proposition, an attainable super-car.:eusa_clap

More here.

Looks like a through update. Even the chassis is modified and strengthened to be more rigid.

Revised suspension.

The DBA-R35 features a revised suspension layout, not only seeing new spring rates and dampers, but also revised geometry and construction. Specifically, the front suspension features a new leverage ratio which, according to Nissan, improves the efficiency of the shock absorbers and stabilizer. The shock itself is said to respond quicker due in part to a new aluminum free piston design. Nissan also claims that damping force generation is more accurate with less friction and improved oil flow, benefiting both ride quality and composure. The front caster angle has been increased, from 5°30 to 6°00, in an effort to improve steering feel and stability. At the rear of the car, Nissan has adjusted the rear suspension’s roll center to better tune the feel of the car. The goal of this work? Improved ride smoothness and stability while also improving both comfort and performance at the same time. While the degree to which they’re successful will ultimately show itself in real world use on both less than ideal streets and challenging, technical tracks, these changes are potentially very significant as the feel and performance of the already excellent handling GT-R is likely to have been substantially improved.

Front brakes are up by 10mm to 390mm.

Wheels that are lighter by 3kg each.

Power is supposed to be 5xx something, but torque is improved significantly.

Another interesting bit - RWD mode.

One interesting feature now enabled in the DBA-R35 is the ability to temporarily put the GT-R in 2WD mode. All you have to do is hold the transmission switch downward on fuel save mode (where snow mode used to be) for 4 seconds. The GT-R will then go rear drive only

Considering how much effort Porsche has given with the new turbo and S models this new GT-R better deliver,i hate to see my fav Japanese car become a loser.

Proof that Godzilla never sleeps (I should copyright that as the GTR's motto!). My only criticism is regarding the LED DRLs. They ought to have integrated them vertically on the inside sides of the airdam. That way when it's lit, it looks like a pair of fangs bearing down on its prey. Otherwise this car's brilliant. Just brilliant.

Yup, it will be even more formidable and such a great value. Anyone out there wish it looked more like a super car though? This GTR has grown on me a bit style wise but it still looks like a Japanese version of an American muscle car or a Japenese/NASCAR hybrid to these eyes.
